“Relaxing, peaceful little Island with stunning views of beautiful coastal area.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2013

A beautiful little island. One can catch ferry (6 euro return) from Cunnamore Pier and it is a very short ferry trip. Beautiful views from all over the Island. It boasts a couple of lovely beaches and gorgeous walks. One really feels a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. There are a number of artists on the island. Everything is in walking distance. There is a fantastic sailing school and it is lovely to see all the children out on their boats. We often visit the island either to walk and take in the peaceful and beautiful surroundings or to watch our children learning to sail or to go to the beach or to visit the artists and perhaps buy a painting. Their is also a popular bread making school on the island. Heir Island is a lovely little bit of heaven on earth.

“Firehouse Bread School Heir Island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2013

What a wonderful day! The Firehouse Bread School (should have its own listing!) is in an idyllic location. Patrick Ryan is a knowledgeable baker who is eager to share his expertise and love of real bread. Small groups of 6 students mean that the instruction is highly personalised. Each baker makes several different recipes - sourdough, yeast, soda bread and a sweet recipe. The small group means that you can see clearly how each bread is made. Each baker gets all the recipes at the end of the day, as well as a bagful of bread. The atmosphere is relaxed, the food is good. We had a super group of people on our course and it was very sociable and relaxed. A real treat to use the wood fired brick oven. Thank you Patrick.

“A little slice of heaven, away from it all.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2013 via mobile

Heir Island is simply stunning. We stayed in self-catering accom....Colette & John's. Ate at the gorgeous little outdoor pizzaria....amazing pizzas...only 8 euro each. Bring your own wine! The island cottage restaurant is pricier but out of this world! We went to a play called fred & alice in the littke art gallery on the island....FANTASTIC. Spent other days catching crabs, fishing, reading on the beach, walkibg on the dunes & swimming in the sea. You get a ferry over with either John or Richie (2gentlemen) You walk to your accomodation..ferry is passenger onky. It's a total break from "real life". Groceries are delivered every 2nd day from Skibbereen so we never ran out of supplies! No pub but a small shop, b&b, beautiful art galleries etc. All makes for an amazing holiday at a totally diff pace :-) Love it! Bring a raincoat & suncream!

“The Closest to Heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2013

I'm a little bit reluctant to write a review because I want to keep this little piece of heaven to just myself! This is my favourite place on this Earth. Its the most beautiful island with plenty of sandy beaches, panoramic views to Sherkin, Baltimore, Cape Clear, the Fastnet, and quite peaceful country roads to walk along and feel like you are touching the end of the Earth. An amazing escape from modern life.
