“Lovely Hotel but...”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

Myself and my husband stayed here for 2 nights. The ladies at reception were very friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome...We checked in to our room and even tho it was very clean and tidy, it was very dated. Could do with an upgrade. We ate the first night in the bar which was very nice and again bar staff were excellent. Very friendly and chatty. The second night we ate in the restaurant and wasn't impressed at all. Soup was tasteless and my meat was dry and cold...but again waiting staff were excellent! We had our breakfast to the room on both mornings, 1st morning was lovely but the second morning, both breakfasts were cold. Our plates were cold also. And over cooked to my liking. The leisure centre is great, as we went for a swim one morning! Over all we did enjoy our stay here, the staff and management are very friendly and welcoming but it definitely needs an update in décor.

stayed here at the weekend, we had a voucher and we had a warm welcome by the receptionist, we got our room, it had three beds!!! only 2 of us, very standard room, the bed wasnt comfortable, we were on the main corridor to the leisure centre, which was ideal. we used the leisure centre which was great, nice pool, nice jacuzzi, himself enjoyed the steam room & sauna. I then went to the bar for a capuccino, i asked the girl at the barfor it and said i would pop to the bathroom and come back, i came back to be asked again by the same girl what i wanted, then she had to go somewhere and a man then appeared behind the bar and said its a cappucino you want and i said yes and he proceeded to pour himself a glass of water and walk away, and the girl came back again and asking was it a capucino i wanted!! (bear in mind there was no one else at the bar looking to order), so i said to himself we arent eating here tonight if its taken this long for a coffee. so we headed off down to the Snug in Bantry square -it was devine and highly recommended. that night I couldnt sleep, the doors opening and closing in other rooms, and i could hear next door going to bathroom and flushing the toilet!!! i was drained in the morning. it was lovely at breakfast because other than the receptionist welcoming us no other staff had even batted an eye at us,m the Manager at breakfast was friendly and all his team were smiling and helfpul. This hotel needs a re vamp they have a great location and need to get with the times, the furniture was dated, beds were lumpy and small, curtains were old fashioned and bathrooms were clean but dated.

Room Tip: any room other than the one we were in

Lovely location, & staff .... very kiddy friendly
. Factors outweighed by the room which was in need of a good clean, dirty threadbare carpets, dusty skirting boards picture frames...cracked sink.
Could have excused the dated part but housekeeping inexcusable as was the restaurant food which was apalling.
A generous breakfast .... but on the 1 morning we opted for a cooked breakfast it was cold.

I would advise everybody to stay away from this hotel , the bedroom carpets were threadbare floors were rock hard ! Stains on walls throughout the room including up over the head board of the bed. Dirty shower curtains - lots of dirty damp patches over bath. No privacy from accommodation staff who walked in without knocking on the day of departure an hour & a half before check out time.
Cold potatoes & veg served with the dinner which was like a conveyor belt - 3 courses in 40min.

If I could give a gold medal to hotel staff, the Westlodge Hotel Bantry would win hands-down. Brid in the Restaurant and Michael in the bar are both gems! We were made feel extremely welcome. We booked a 2-night deal which was very good value. The hotel, while not the most modern in décor, is an excellent base for touring this very scenic area. The quality of the locally produced food was excellent. The pool / leisure area is of a very good standard. This is a hotel I would happily return to and we wish them well for the future.

Room Tip: While the décor is not the most modern, rooms are spotlessly clean with good linens, etc.
