“Grand Style”
Reviewed 10 August 2008

We were amazed from the moment we took the long driveway up to the estate, then were even more amazed at the beauty of the house and the gardens. Our room was spectacular and extremely spacious and elegant. We had a direct view of Bantry Bay from our room, and the amenities were superb. Breakfast was served by the owner himself, with the attentiveness of a personal butler. In spite of other people in the dining room, he constantly kept an eye on each and every table, and attended to our every want and need. The breakfast was excellent, and was served in grand style. Later in the morning we toured the grounds, which included beautiful gardens and "The 100 steps" which led to a view of the house and the bay below. It is truly a setting that can't be matched. We hope to return there for a more extensive stay.

We rented two rooms for the night of May 25, 2008. Every aspect of our stay was superb. The hospitality of the staff, the magnificient gardens and the rooms themselves were outstanding. As stated in other reviews, the host was gracious, personally handled our check-in and made our dinner reservations on a very busy night at O'Connor's in town. Bantry House is truly a gem and worth the cost of staying there. All of us hope to repeat our visit.

We stayed here for one night over Easter and it was wonderful. The bedroom was warm and inviting with great views of the garden and the bathroom was state of the art with under floor heating. We popped into the town for dinner then returned to the library where we sat by the fire, read books from the library and helped ourselves to drinks at the bar - it really felt like we were visitors in a very beautiful house as apposed to being just another guest in another hotel chain. We were very lucky to have the place to ourselves (there was one other couple staying but we only saw them at breakfast) - my tip would be - book out of season! Next day we had a great breakfast and enjoyed our tour of the fantastic gardens and house that was included in the price of the room.

We had left Dingle a day early as our previous hotel was less than good. Having wanted to visit the gardens as we had read that this was one of Ireland's cannot miss things to do, I had seen that there may be an opportunity to stay also at Bantry House.
Thank goodness for the call I made!!
Bantry house is such a tranquil, beautiful and relaxing place which welcomes you with open arms.
I cannot stress enough how helpful both the staff and Mr White (Owner of Bantry) were on our arrival. Mr White not only showed us to the room, but also offered a guided tour of the house.

The room was very elegant, clean and well equipped.
Breakfast was excellent, with a huge choice.

We paid £200 euro, but this was worth every penny to open your eyes looking across the beautiful gardens and Bantry bay.

If you want to some real sea food we were recommended to go to O'connels (i think?) which was very good. For a true irish bar experience go to Murpheys bar, both in Bantry.

We will certainly be back to stay at some point.

Having returned from Ireland, we feel compelled to write here how much we particularly enjoyed our stay at Bantry House. We stayed for two nights - it is more expensive than other B&Bs, but absolutely worth every penny. It is such a special location - the most stunning view from the house over Bantry Bay to the Kerry hills! The B&B accomodation in one wing of the house is much more than what you would expect from a B&B - room really gorgeous/spoiling, breakfast a treat to look forward to, and added extras were the bar and billiards room. We were made to feel like real guests of the house, rather than 'paying customers'. We also very much enjoyed looking around the House's gardens. Our stay was a highlight of our holiday and we really appreciated everyone at Bantry House's help, advice and friendliness - Mr White and all the staff. We really recommend and look forward to our return.

We spend most of our nights in Ireland in nice B & Bs and staid in Bantry House as a special treat as it was highly recommended by friends. We really enjoyed our stay there tremendously. Bantry House offer Bed& Breakfast accommodation in beautifully furnished guest rooms and bathrooms overlooking the wonderful gardens. The White family and the staff did a wonderful job of making us feel as guests their home – a bit like staying in a country house with friends.

The house itself is stately and a bit crumbling with some beautifully furnished public rooms giving a just a glimpse of what live was like there in the last 300 years. Some of the rooms have museum quality, but you also get the feeling that the family has lived there for 300 years, has adjusted to the changes those years brought and is doing a good job of maintaining the family home and gardens.

The gardens were stunning as was the sweeping view of Bantry Bay. It is a wonderful base for day trips, activities such as golf, sailing, horse back riding, hiking and more. The hosts and staff are most helpful in making suggestions and arrangements. It is also a good place to relax and take a breather on your trip around Ireland.

My husband and I stayed here in May. The gentleman manning the phone had a lovely aristocratic accent. He is a family member of the original owners who lost their title through some Salic Law-like technicality. He is of the sweetly absentminded sort, like a classics professor. Very endearing.
The property is gorgeous, set in wonderful gardens overlooking Bantry Bay.
The views are arresting.
The rooms were in a wing off the elegant library. One can have a nice drink from the "honor system" bar and sit by the fire, or write a letter at an antique desk. The bookcases line the walls and are beautiful.
The room was unremarkable but clean with a clean bathroom. It had a lovely view over the back gardens.
There are other rooms overlooking Bantry Bay.
The breakfast was good, served by the sweetly helpful proprietor himself.
House is also a museum with some very nice Gobelin tapestries.
We were entranced with this place and would surely return.
