“Very unhelpful receptionist !!!!”
Reviewed 26 August 2009

Travelling around west cork, decided to stay in Bantry for the night it was our Wedding Anniversary, We were looking for a good Hotel good food and some good music, before we checked into the Maritime we asked did they have entertainment that night yes was the reply, starting around 10pm!!, lovely checked into our room, went out had a fabulous meal and headed back to the hotel for around 9.45, checked with the receptionist around 10.30 to see is the entertainment starting soon, she was very dismissive and said it would be starting soon. !!!! It never did, we sat there like fools waiting, a disco started up aroung 12.30, by then i was so disappointed we went to bed.

We stayed in the Maritime for two days, mid-week. It has a good location in Bantry with a view of the bay. There are great restaurants in the town - check out O'Connors and the Fish Kitchen - and the locals are friendly. On a positive note, the hotel had friendly reception staff, decent gym facilities and free wifi. The downside: on one of the two mornings our breakfast order was lost resulting in a delay of 40 minutes; on the first night, music at a private function in the restaurant started at 11.45pm and didn't finish until 2am making it difficult to sleep. The manager was apologetic and quick to react and moved us from the 1st floor (directly above the non-sound proofed restaurant) to a balcony room on the 4th floor, however the music could still be heard, which just became irritating. The balcony room we were given was dusty and cold (underfloor heating in the bathroom didn't work) and I much preferred the standard room we had been moved from, in terms of general comfort. On the 2nd night of our stay we could hear guests in the next room on their balcony in the wee small hours and again had an interrupted sleep. Overall, the hotel could do with better soundproofing, and greater thought needs to be given when booking functions/ events in the bar or restaurant, particularly their impact on paying guests in the rooms above. We found out that there was a wedding in the hotel while we were there, though you couldn't hear the music from it as it was held in the proper function room. Needless to say, it wasn't a very relaxing stay.

We stayed here with our 8 year old in a 1 bedroom suite. Big spacious bedroom with large well decorated living room with kitchen area and pull out sofa bed. Great balcony off our bedroom to relax and chat after child was asleep. The kids club was great, 10am to 3pm and he had a blast. The only drawback is the long and mind goggling trek from reception to the suites. A porter is so necessary here! The staff were very friendly and room service was prompt and hot. We never left the hotel for 3 days (rain was our excuse!) but it was so relaxing we just lazed around. I had a facial and i can honestly say that the treatment i received from the tall dark haired girl was second to none. Can't wait to go back. Excellent!!

stayed on a package deal which included 1 dinner- turned out there was a 'supplement ' for most dishes on the menu if on a package which I had not seen in other hotels and meant the package deal was misleading. The layout o fhte hotel was very confuing and the decor was not to my liking- too many stripes! There was a lot of noise- hoovering outside our door at 8.30 am. Staff were helpful, but not overly by any degree. The spa was the best feature of hotel- the staff there are fantastic and extremely professional despite being hidden away in a small appartment in the hotel. The gym and pool were adequate, but certainly nothing special.

It looks and feels at first glance like yet another hotel built by developer in boomtime Ireland. But unlike most of those it is actually very well run and relatively decent value.
I don't really like the decor myself but it is modern, clean and a bit different. The location is perfect and the restaurant is at least as good if not better than any in the town.
The service was very pleasant and unfussy.
Breakfast was slightly above average , free wifi as standard is nice.

Spent two days in the Maritime this summer with my husband and two girls aged 14 and 11. We had a suite with a balcony overlooking the harbour and it was honestly the most relaxing comfortable hotel I've ever stayed in. The kids loved it and it was a pleasure to go back to the suite each evening and chill a bottle of wine in the fridge and watch the plasma tvs in both the bedroom and living room. Lovely unobtrusive staff, four star luxury without the snobbiness, an absolute delight to stay there. Can't wait to go back. Bantry is a really lovely town, the people are great and try to have a meal in The Snug, just down the road from the hotel. Can't wait to go back.

It was alright......have stayed in better and in worse. One thing that got to me was to get to our room on the third floor you had to take a lift to the first floor........walk down a corridor.........then take another lift to the 3rd floor........itand then our room was at the very end of that 3rd floor corridor ..........when it wasn't raining you could go out on the street and go down to another entrance and do in there and take a lift up to 3rd floor......I was pregnant and not up for too much walking and we had our 14 month old with us as well.......when i asked could we be moved to a room that wasn't such a walk away as i wasn't able for it.......we didn't receive a very favourable response.......it was abrupt and dismissive. Not impressed with that at all.
