“Lovely B+B in Bantry with very hospitable landlady!”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Enjoyed a very nice 2 night stay here with the very hospitable Maggie. She was delightful. Fantastic value for money with an amazing breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble, freshly baked bread / scones/ cakes. Yummy !!
Located just outside the lovely tourist town of Bantry - you could probably walk in if you felt like it - maybe 20 mins or so.. So much to see and do in this area : Bantry House, slea head pennisula, Glengarriff, Garinish Island..
Would definitely stay again..

We stayed here for one night during our tour of south west Ireland, but wish we could have stayed longer. We had a lovely room with patio doors to the garden, overlooking Bantry Bay and facing the sunset. Breakfast was amazing with homemade scones, jams, bread and even muesli. There was a lovely yogurt dish with fruit and fruit coulis. And a choice of cooked breakfast to follow.

Room Tip: The Galley Head room for the view and patio doors to the garden.

Maggie does an impressive breakfast spread with cheeses, yogurt, yogurt parfaits, fruit, homemade bread and scones. Lots of choices in addition to an Irish fry. The location is ideal for touring the Sheep's Head or Beara Peninsulas. The room was clean and ours had a view, over the trees, of Bantry Bay. We also had an entrance to our room from the outside, which I liked.

There is a nice sitting room for lounging in the evening. Maggie gave us good advice about a couple different restaurants in Bantry. As we stayed three nights, we tried them both and they were excellent. We weren't offered tea on arrival but there is tea making equipment in the room. The second night we asked for tea and Maggie served it for us. She also made tea for us the third night. So if you prefer tea made in a proper kettle, ask.

As others have stated, breakfast is family style with 8 chairs around a single table. This can be good or bad! We like talking to other guests whether we are at a single table or multiple tables. The first morning was great. Three couples all from different countries. We had a super breakfast conversation. The second was a different story. There were six foreign ladies only one of whom spoke broken English. Not a problem, except the one beside me frequently had her elbow into me or her leg. And they all were constantly reaching over the table touching and feeling the fruit or other foods. A very uncomfortable meal indeed. The third morning we decided to get to breakfast very early. Guess what--there they all were taking over the table again. Not Maggie's fault, but the fact is, with only a single smallish table for eight people you don't have a seating option. Of all the Irish B&Bs we have stayed in, I can only think of one other that offers a single seating option and the table there is much larger. So if you would like a little privacy for your morning meal, this isn't the place to find it.

For our purposes, touring the peninsulas, this was a good choice. We would stay again and hope for better breakfast companions!!

Room Tip: If you like an outside entry from your room, ask for the Galley Head.

Set a 15min walk from town, Atlantic Shore is set on a hillside with a (distant) view over the bay. Maggie was beyond welcoming and always had good advise on places to go and restaurants to eat at. The room was clean and comfy with a patio door facing with the view. The gorgeous breakfast was set at a communal table and had everything from full Irish to fruit yoghurts. An absolute pleasure!

Maggie is a great host, making sure everything is right! Her home is off the main road with lovely views over Bantry Bay, the breakfast spread is an excellent array of tempting goodies, the shower was top notch with big fluffy bath towels. It is only a short drive into Bantry with a reasonable choice of places to eat in the evening. Well worth a visit!

We had an adventure trying to find this gem. Once we arrived, the effort was well worth the hunt. The home is beautiful and Maggie is spectacular. It was like having family in Ireland. The breakfast was unsurpassed. She made most of it from scratch including the biscuits! The rooms are large and beautifully decorated.

Room Tip: The Bantry bay room was awesome! The galley head room is small but has it's own balcony with cha...
