“A hidden gem!!”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

Myself and my partner came to castletownbere in august to visit an old friend and we were pleasantly surprised with a warm welcome, our room was lovely with spectacular views that disconnected us from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We thought the breakfast was nice and the young girl i think her name was una ( appologese if incorrect) was very helpful and set a good atmosphere for us to thoroughly enjoy our stay. Overall fantastic value for money and we will definately be returning to see our old friend and we will stay here again, thank you for your hospitality.

car park and outside of house scruffy and uncared for. the carpets and paint work were tired with damp spots. it took a while to realise that this is not a b&b in the strict sense as it is not the owners home and obviously empty and unheated a lot of the time. adequate but not recommended.

Because they were quiet when we stayed we got the rooms with the best views. Beautiful Views! Woke up to Castletownbere on a beautiful August morning. Tim and Mary were very friendly and laid back. They served up a delicious Full Irish Breakfast in the morning.

I came on the bus from Cork City. Mary who runs the place together with her husband Tim had given me the advice to tell the busdriver where I wanted to go, so that I could get off the bus very close to the place. The restaurant is closed now, but the B&B continues. It was a warm welcome, they arranged a bike for me, gave me a lot of advice what to do in the area. The room I had was OK. Not with a view (there are some), but clean. So, I did not regret staying ar Cottage Heights.

The Cottage Heights is a wonderful B&B/Restaurant. We have stayed here on several occasions while visiting Castletownbere, this summer however the restaurant part does not seem to be running which is a bit of a disappointment. The rooms of this B&B are all en-suite, well kept and very comfortable. The Breakfast menu is a bit limited but still has nice variety...It is in a Good location just outside the town, but if not one for walking a car or taxi would be needed even though it is 5/7minutes outside the town. We would highly recommend a stay in this lovely B&B. Food and Service is very good with nice and friendly owners who know alot about the surrounding area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the sea, onlooking the harbour and bear island.

Originally we had booked at seabreeze but something went wrong with our reservation.
The owner of seabreeze was so helpful to book a room at Cottage heights.
The reception was correct but not as warm as other B&B's we have been to.
The room has a great ocean view view with much space, clean but not well maintained.
The bed was very bad , the mattress is old and the springs hurt our backs.
Residents get a discount at the restaurant and that is a good thing because the food is less then average and not a good price/quality.
Breakfast starts at 08.30, a bit late for me but the breakfast tasted good.
The owners looked a bit tired and not so motivated to make us have a great stay.
For that price you can easily find a better B&B.

We stayed here for one night whilst touring Ireland. The room was comfortable and clean and the view over the harbour was amazing. The breakfast compared to other B&Bs we stayed at during our trip was quite poor both in terms of options and quality. We also had to wait for 20 minutes when we arrived at the B&B (at the time specified) as there was no-one to let us in.

We had an evening meal at the B&B which also doubles as the 'Cottage Heights Restaurant' - the seafood was very nice although in hindsight potentially a little on the expensive side. It may be worth exploring local options in Castletownbere.

Tim and Mary were both friendly and really helped us out when we unfortunately had a puncture, arranging to have the local garage come and repair it for us.

If you are staying at Cottage Heights I would also highly recommend McCarthy's Bar in the centre of the town.

Overall, a comfortable B&B in a good location that was unfortunately let down for us by an uninspired breakfast menu.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a 'Sea View'
