Many times passing the gates Castlemartyr Estate on the way to Cork, the thought entered my head that someday I must check out there. Eventually, last October 2013 we booked a night and the only regret was, that we didn't book two nights! So we rectified that and booked Valentines weekend this year. Could not reccommend CM enough for somebody that want's to treat themselves to a little bit of luxury at reasonable prices. The Hotel room is the best in Ireland that I've stayed in-2nd overall only to the Venetian in Vegas. It's more like a suite than a room! The staff were excellent, friendly and at your service, willing to accomodate your needs without that stuffiness of other 5 stars. The breakfast is also a treat -try the French Toast-it's so light it's like eating a cloud!

Room Tip: Have stayed there twice in 4 months and both rooms were the same-large luxurious and peaceful-so am...

Just returned from a most enjoyable weekend at Castlemartyr Resort. The hotel is set is beautiful grounds with swans on the lake and horses in the paddock. The hotel itself is very spacious and there is a great sense of calmness, ideal for those taking a break from a hectic world. We ate in the Italian restaurant one evening and found it to be very good value. Breakfast was leisurely and delicious. Planning a return trip ASAP.

We stayed for 2 nights in one of the lodges. The accommodation is generous the beds and bed linen luxurious giving a good nights sleep. The silence is amazing. The main house is beautiful. We dined in the Italian restaurant. Our meals were excellent and the service is tops.
If you would like a get away from it all break this location would suit you. There are long beautiful walks a host of activities to get involved in and beautiful places to sit and relax in.

The core element of being a 5 star hotel is treating every guest like they are the only one - that is unfortunately not the case with this hotel as it is in others. We stayed here as a mini-honeymoon break.
The facilities are great, everything looks like the pictures, the rooms are spacious and clean. But with our stay the service was not up to scratch. A few members of staff were memorable for their friendliness and care however.
The menus are varied with multiple places to eat, and the ingredients are locally sourced and impressive, however the quality of the food is nothing to write home about. If you are staying here, I recommend eating in the Italian restaurant as it is a relaxed environment with good service.
Breakfast is average - we were left waiting over an hour for service one morning and eventually left as we had to check out. We were offered a picnic for our journey in return which we could not accept.
The bar is quiet, relaxed, and the staff were knowledgable and friendly.
I will not be booking a return trip any time soon.

My husband and I were without a room after a debacle with our hotel in Cork. We found this hotel online, and it being 8:00 PM, we booked. We were so glad we did. We were so happy with our stay, we ended up staying an extra night. The rooms were gorgeous, the grounds were fun, and they even had two sweet Irish Pointers, Duchess and Earl, to welcome us. I would give 4.5 stars because the carpets were a little worn in places, but since the overall experience with staff and facilities were so positive, I decided to round up.

My husband, myself and 3 kids aged 10-5 stayed in lodge 39 for 4 nights over midterm. Disappointed for the price and the ratings. These places are nowhere near 5 star..maybe an average 3 star and the hotel is ridiculously overpriced with not a lot going on.
Lodges are in very bad condition inside and out. Ours was filthy dirty on arrival so we called the concierge who was very nice and said he'd advice the manager. He also dropped over a breakfast hamper which was much appreciated. The manager called over and I pointed out all the dirty floors, there were cobwebs everywhere. On the floors the windows the ceilings in the shower....everywhere. she was very apologetic and agreed to send the cleaner in. We went our and returned a couple of hours later. One cobweb was gone the rest were still in place. She told us they would hoover and mop and she told us sone if the cobwebs were too high to reach which was ok until we went in to examine and all but one were still there in some cases spiders and all. They were everywhere and do obvious and we'll within reaching distance even if a child being that they were on the floor!!!!
I was disgusted. The tap in our room was broken and water scalding. There are only 2 table lamps in each bedroom which makes it impossible to see into the wardrobes. The decking was filthy and untreated so like an ice rink.
The kitchen was nice and bathrooms also. Furniture is good quality. The playground us lovely but the forest walk to the hotel is very littered.
The hotel itself would not appeal to us again. There is not a whole lot going on. Zero atmosphere especially in the bar and drinks are extortionate prices €8.5 for a glass of standard wine!!!!! The service was friendly throughout but very slow and often had to go looking for someone. The pool is ok but changing rooms a disgrace. Filthy, broken and not even 2 star standard.
We ate in the bar one afternoon for lunch and after paying €121 for some sandwiches, fish and chips and kids meals with drinks and 2 scones and coffee we were served mediocre food. It was grand. we ate evening meal in franchises and this was reasonable and quite tasty but again not anything to write home about. My advise?? Eat in Pat Shoraqt's pub...beautifully fresh food at good prices and with a bit of soul in the place!!
OVERALL THERE'S NOT A LOT TO DO UNLESS U PLAY GOLF AND IT'S SO OVERPRICED. parking is a joke too.
Not 5 star. Low on staff. Low on atmosphere. Low on maintenance. Low on effort. Never again but I will miss eating in pat shorts.

First the good stuff great location fabulous room ( junior suite) and some of the staff absolutely great others dreadful the worst kind of sorry sir the rules are ! When it comes to food Bell Tower breakfast and dinner good , bar food variable, the Italian a ghastly menu from 1972 and badly cooked at that. Then as my partner aptly put it people over process. Can't get a table on the first night as restaurants fully booked until I made a scene and then one was quickly available ! If you are lucky enough to get a booking in the spa ( three bossy and rude receptionists ) and only two therapists you will be well looked . Pity the spa pool in the mens broken. On a Sunday 25 people in the pool without swimming hats on a Monday they try and sell you one as its the law in Ireland to wear one ! ! ! make up your mind people . Woe betide you if you want a packet of crisps you can have the full movie package ice cream wine gums etc and crisps but not on their own . No coffee in the bar until it opens at 12 etc etc etc

Overall in today's world there are many far better places to spend your hard earned money.
