A very good friend of mine stayed at Abbey House while attending my wedding. She described Abbey House as a home away from home with stellar service and told me to review it as she didnt have a Tripadvisor account. For EUR75 per night, she had a big room which was clean and well maintained and a great breakfast for 2 daily. They also very kindly picked her up from the train station, sent her to the church for the wedding and took her back to the train station after her stay without charge. Excellent and warm service. It was her first time in Ireland and her stay gave her a very good impression of the country. The house is also by the river and offers great views and is very peaceful. She loved it by all accounts.

We found the house has a great location for the Kilkenny area. Also with Jerpoint Abbey right in front of us, we had to visit it and we had one of the best guided tours in Ireland! The situation was so good that we went there every night, after dinner, to play hide-and-seek with our teenage boys - we had great fun there!
In what concerns the b&b itself, we had a family room that consisted of two large double beds, but they forgot we were four and only left towels for two... Also the lady of the house seemed in a hurry during those days, so we hardly saw her and found the welcoming a bit cold...
The house has the most incredible blue living room, but the sofas are quite faded (in terms of comfort). We met a very nice Irish couple there, that used the house as a base for Mount Juliet, so it seems a nice option as a base for Mount Juliet golfers!

My daughter and I stayed at Abbey House in July. Helen greeted us and gave us tea in the sunroom so we could relax a bit after our drive.
Our travel agent was unable to arrange a cooking class for us at Ballymaloe and asked Helen for another recommendation. Helen offered to have us cook with her in her kitchen! We made scones and brown bread then ate them in the dining room! We were lucky she had some time to sit and chat with us about growing up in Ireland.
Helen recommended we have dinner at Sol Bistro in the little village or Thomastown. It was extraordinary!
The visit to Jerpoint Abbey was very informative. Our guide spent a lot of time with us and we almost had the place to ourselves. It is definitely worth a visit.

After a longish drive we arrived at The Abbey House somewhat depleted only to be greeted by Helen as long lost ( But appreciated) friends. She prepared Tea which we took in a cozy sun room and were quicky refreshed. Our stay was marked by quiet, efficient and sincere hospitality. Helens home is quiet, charming and historic as it includes the remains of the Jerpoint Abby Mill surrounded by beautiful fields- wonderfully suited for walking. Many local roads are a bit perilous and unsuited for comfortable walking. Just minutes from Mount Juliet resort..a wonderful and incredible golf resort. The home, the setting, the food and the hospitality are simply first class .Great location and an easy trip to Kilkenny and other surrounding points of interest.

Room Tip: I know of no problems with rooms

My husband and I attended an event in Mount Juliet in mid-July, and as we were late booking, we had to find accommodation nearby. We were very lucky to choose Abbey House. We had a lovely room, furnished with great character, and the breakfast was wonderful. However, Helen, the hostess, made the real difference. She is very helpful and great for a chat, but she doesn't intrude in any way. She went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed, and even drove us over to Mount Juliet when we asked for help arranging a taxi! The location is ideal for visiting the Abbey, and is a good central location for the Kilkenny area, but you would really need a car to get to Thomastown or Mount Juliet, unless you really enjoy walking. It's a lovely house with a great hostess and we would recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at Abbey house in late June. The owner, Helen, was wonderful to us and made us feel very welcomed. We had a beautiful room which was quiet with a view of the mill and river. The breakfasts were great !!! Freshly baked scones, delicious eggs and a fabulous
fruit salad. Abbey house topped our list for the best accomodations that we had on our trip to Ireland.. We loved the overall ambiience of this beautiful home in County Kilkenny.

We were not able to find a B and B in Kilkenny, and how lucky we were. After a day in Kilkenny visiting the Castle, we headed for Jerpoint Abbey, and our wonderful B and B was exactly across the road. Helen greeted up warmly on our arrival and after showing us our rooms, let us know that the sunroom and sitting room were available for us too. We had happy hour in the sunroom looking over the old mill. Great photography opportunities of the mill and stream in the late afternoon. Just a walk around the grounds is refreshing. We enjoyed conversation with our hosts about the property and its history. One of the benefits of B and B's in Ireland, as elsewhere, is the opportunity to talk with the owners and learn more than in the guide books.

Room Tip: all rooms are upstairs, so plan for a small overnight bag if you can. We did most nights in Ireland...
