“Quiet and Relaxing”
Reviewed 17 September 2012

Stayed here in Aug 2012 with parents and my brother. Its an old house with bags of character. The room we stayed in had 5 beds (3 single, 1 double) so it was very large with huge sash window overlooking a large rear garden. The place was very clean and the shower was good and hot. There is no lift to get up the stairs which might be an issue for some. It is a very quiet place so you will not be disturbed by traffic noise etc. The decor is I guess quite chintzy and far from modern but it is in keeping with the house so no complaints. The staff were friendly and helpful.
It's roughly a 10 minute drive into the center of town from here so it wouldn't cost much in a taxi.
We stayed in 4 different places in Ireland that week and this was the best breakfast by far. Tasty and lots of it. Even my Dad was pleased! I would stay here again for sure if I was with family/couple looking for a quiet weekend.

After reading all the reviews we thought this place should be good, we are always looking for somewhere to stay in Dublin that's affordable and comfortable, we prefer b&bs to big hotels, I'm afraid this isn't it.
It's like we stayed in a different place, we were put in a small room at the top of the house, cramped small double bed, dirty/old carpet, tiny ensuite, all badly in need of refurbishment, at the front with the traffic, no garden for us! They kept saying how busy they were, but the house seemed really quiet & there was only 1 car & a motorbike in the carpark.
We had to leave at around 7.20 am & breakfast not 'till 7.30, fair enough, they gave us tea & toast, but the man of the house had rung us at 6.55 appx. to tell us they were ready for us & we could smell the bacon cooking............The woman, Mary was very pleasant, so a pity we won't be back.

A lovely old house turned into this B&B - Mary and her husband will make your stay a joy. They are warm and caring and make sure their guest house is spotless and comfortable. They go out of their way to see to all your needs and the staff is a sheer joy. Our waitress each morning catered to us and was quite charming. We had a terrific stay and enjoyed the home immensely. The breakfast room looks out onto a beautiful yard. Our room was large and spacious, the hot water was plentiful.

Ardagh House is a quick bus ride from the center of Dublin. We stayed there for about a week - last week. All the hotels in the city center were booked for the Army / Navy football game and we lucky to find a free room here. To our surprise the location was quite ideal...the bus ride is quick and often and never a problem. As it turned out we loved the place so much we would only stay here the next time we come to Dublin.

What a find!

Room Tip: We saw a lot of rooms and doubt there is a bad room in the place!

Wonderful rooms, clean, nice bath rooms, best breakfast I got in Ireland, bus stop nearby to reach Dublin city in minutes.

The Ardagh House lies in quiet residential area near the end station of the bus line 140. Visiting the Dublin city is easy and fast.
We had two family rooms with 5 and 3 beds. The whole house is very stylish and tastefully furnished. Bathrooms are good, showers provide more water than most other B&B.
Breakfast starts with a buffet and continues with a rich selection from a menu card. The best breakfast we had in Ireland this year.

Ardagh House is our favorite B&B for a stay in the Dublin area!

I stayed with my wife and son and a travel cot was provided for us, which was excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we enjoyed our stay. The room overlooked the garden and was nice and quiet so no problems sleeping. The old shutters were very useful blocking out the evening sun so I get put my son to sleep with no problem. The room itself could do with a refurb and is showing its age, but it was perfectly clean. Breakfast was nice, a good choice of cereals, full cooked breakfast, pancakes, porridge, fruit etc. It's an easy walk down to the Luas Cowper stop so we used that daily to travel into town. Overall very nice, I wouldn't say amazing boutique standard as other reviews have, the rooms would need the refurb to come up to that level.

We stayed in the Ardagh House for a week in March 2012. The guest house is lovely and homely. The room was very comfortable. The breakfast was very nice - not lots of selection but hot and tasty.
The only fault I would have with our stay was the shower. The water ran cold for the first 2 days. The owner apologised and said there had been problems with the heating. Then, once the heating problem was fixed, there was still not hot water, so it turned out that there was a problem with the shower. This made us wonder if there had been a problem with the heating in the first place or if this had just been an excuse.
With the shower, the owners insist that you need to run the sink water first to ensure the hot water is running. Then it's ok to use the shower, but that the shower temperature is "just right" and you shouldn't adjust the temperature dial in the shower. It all became a bit involved - at the end of the day, you just want to have a nice shower, and a temperature that suits one person might not suit another. We were very disappointed with this aspect of our stay. The owners were accomodating about the issue but at the end of the day, a nice shower is a given as part of your stay anywhere. I would be hesistant to go back because of this.

Room Tip: Room 17 is lovely, once the shower issue has been fixed!

Mary and Will are the most welcoming and accommodating hosts. Greeting us at the door, knowing exactly which bookings we were. Helping us find a room to settle in before our room was ready. The B&B is cosy and homely, my favourite part being the breakfast in the morning- hot and cooked to order. The whole house is relaxing and peaceful, despite us staying over the St Patricks Day weekend. Rooms are neat, tidy and clean. Complementary fruit basket was a welcome bonus!
