“Unpleasant stay”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2012

The hotel was falling apart, the owner was extremely rude and they had an open viewing whilst we was staying there with no courtesy to tell us this would be happening. This particular morning, we was lying in bed when an estate agent and 2 potential buyers walked into our room to view it without even knocking.

The manager suggested that we didn’t eat the food because it 'wasn’t good' because he obviously couldn’t be bothered to cook. The website said food was available but we got the impression that they did not want to cater food for us.

The ceiling was mouldy and there was no hot water. There was never anyone around to speak to (staff wise) and when the owner did appear she was extremely rude and unhelpful. I would strongly suggest not to use this hotel as it is an awful environment and an unpleasant stay.

The hotel advertises that it has 11 rooms, and while it is small, it all looked very pleasant when got there. The reception area is very small, but there is a large bar area.

We booked through agoda.com which apparently is why everything went wrong for us… We arrived quite late on our check in day (about 9:30pm) but assumed that since I had made a booking I would be OK to arrive when I pleased as I’d paid for my room. When we arrived we had been told that due to a booking error, there had been an overbooking and the hotel had in fact had to turn people away as they were overbooked. However, we were lucky as we had still got a room in the hotel.

Our room was meant to be room 8, but this had been crossed out on our booking (presumably because we have arrived late) so we were being moved to room 14 (a bit worrying for a hotel with 11 rooms!) It all made sense when we were led to our room. We were walked through a door which said ‘no entry for guests’ past the bins and out to a room at the back of the hotel. On opening the door, we were greeted by a room that wouldn’t look out of place in a hostel (see the pictures) and which stunk of smoke. There were electrical wires hanging from the wall, the lights were missing light bulbs and the TV had 2 channels, both which were fuzzy as they came through an analogue aerial. Also, we had a lovely view of the bins! It was evidently clear that this was staff sleeping quarters. Apparently if you book through agoda.com you’re more likely to be a backpacker and will be treated as such. I didn’t realise this…

In fairness, the staff who led us to our room were not rude, but it was 16th March and we were told there’d be no other hotels that we could move to and there were no other free rooms in the hotel. The thing which was a bit annoying was we saw another couple arrive on the 17th March and led to their room in the main hotel. I would have expected that we would have been given this room (one night in the staff quarters one night in the real hotel) but we weren’t. They did throw in one breakfast and a drink from the bar.

Lessons learnt;
1) If you book through agoda.com, expect to be treated like a backpacker.
2) If you’re going to book this hotel through a third party website, call the hotel to make sure you’ve got a room before you arrive.
3) If when you check-in the hotel offers you room 14, say no.

I've given this a 'terrible' rating based on my own experience. The hotel looked OK, but a free drink and one continental breakfast doesn’t really make up for us being moved into the staff sleeping area and told that because we booked through agoda.com we would be treated like backpackers.

Room Tip: 1) If you book through agoda.com, expect to be treated like a backpacker. 2) If you’re going to bo...

This hotel did not match up to the pictures. I was staying on my own and found the hotel quite eerie and very quiet. There was no place to have a refreshment or get food, which I was not expecting. While I do admit to being a clean freak, the room was very worn and certainly not inviting. It was dark and not a place where you might like to spend an evening relaxing. However, in saying that, the sheets were clean, as was the bathroom. Furthermore, there was hot water for a shower which is always a good thing! The girl who welcomed me was very friendly and helpful, which was much appreciated. I left this morning without seeing a single person. I just hope they found my room keys! Also the undecorated christmas tree is the window of the hotel should really be taken down asap...

Room Tip: Not room 10..

Stayed here for 3 nights. It's in a lovely part of Rathgar and only a 15 minute bus trip into city centre. Would recommend to anyone needing to stay in South Dublin area. Clean rooms and friendly service. Free parking and free wifi.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are cheaper - smaller bed and smaller room but still perfectly clean. Deluxe double...

Gorgeous hotel, Staff very nice, had relaxing evening sipping wine with friends in beautiful surroundings. Continental breakfast only but everything baked fresh that morning. A stroll to Rathgar village. Room needed a paint and basin sink needed fixing but that didn't take away from the stay. Will be back. Well worth it.
