Howth
To the north, 14 km from the city centre Dublin (still marked by 18th-century milestones), the peninsula of Howth is very nice for a walk (when you have the nice weather). Just take the bus (No. 31) or DART (from Connolly Station) out to Howth and walk around the cliffs! The whole tour takes about 2-3 hours. It is most beautiful in Aug/Sept when the heather bathes the cliffs in red. There is also a boat that departs from Howth harbour that goes out to the island off the coast called Ireland's Eye. You can visit it and the monolithic ruins on it for a very reasonable price and if you're lucky you might be able to get the island to yourself.
The King Sitric (fish restaurant) at the harbor serves freshly caught fish at eye watering prices.

On a good day it's great... and at night it's lovely to see all the lights of the city.

I don't "do " reviews but this is worth a comment. If you visit / live in Dublin you should make it a date to visit Howth head. It has a magnificent view and it is a great walk. Just Do it

Howth is in a lot of guidebooks, but it still is easy to skip as a typical tourist. It's an easy 25 minute DART ride from Dublin to this beautiful seaside village. We walked out of the pretty crowded pier and right away saw beautiful big fat seals. Then ate wonderful seafood and then started on an unguided walk up the cliffs that are easy to see from the village. The paths are very well marked, but the walk was a little harder (though we were glad) than we had imagined, as we started on the uphill route, but the view was spectacular, the gulls wonderful to listen to, and the second half all downhill.

A fantastic place for a walk, from the pier to the head and back is a lovely walk suitable for all. Would recommend the chipper for a treat afterwards too !! Binoculars a must to see all the wildlife while walking on the head
