Had an early dinner for 2 in O'Connell's last Friday. First pleasant surprise, there is FREE parking in Howth, surely one of the last piece of uncommercialised concrete on the planet. The pub itself? Lovely inside, specials were a good plate (monkfish tail and a Caesar salad) and the quality was pretty good, not outstanding but pretty good (fish was a bit dry and seemed to have been re-heated, salad could have done with more dressing, perhaps on the side so as not to smother and wilt it). Couple of lovely glasses of NZ Sav, 45 quid with sides of fries and veg; little on the pricey side but then that's Howth generally, I'd say. Console yourself with the thought that you're paying for the views, the ambience, the lovely harbour strolls, the buzz. Try the little Italian coffee shop near O'Connells and, of course, the Abbey Tavern for a pint.
