I don't play golf, so this is not a club review, but a lunch one for a change.
Two of us ate there last Friday, we were passing about 1:30pm and saw the sign saying 'non members welcome'.
We drove in, it looks like a really lovely club. The club house is large and while the décor is quite 'golf clubby' and fit for purpose, the food and service was top notch.
We sat at a table overlooking one of the fairways and had Cod, Vegetable, potato and Salmon, Vegetable and potato. A portion of delicious crispy chips (fries) was provided for us to share.
The main course could not have been faulted. The fish as fresh as fresh could be and the accompanying veg was perfect. DELICIOUS.
We had two desserts a banoffi pie and an apple pie and cream. I am not a big dessert fan but that banoffi pie was to die for, and my dining partner said the same about his pie.
Two substantial mains, two desserts, one pint of Heineken and one coffee came to €35 - an absolute steal. Service by a beautiful young irish lady was friendly, efficient and professional.
Wonderful to find such a gem. The club is signposted just before you enter the town of Oughterard from the Galway side.
