an oasis of peace in the irish speaking region, which is a unique experience in an area of outstanding beauty. second stay here . as you drive up the remote driveway you enter a secluded world of a bygone era, with all the modern conviences. the hosts elaine and henry, are absolutely charming. no request is met with any hesitation or bother. excellent directions, insight, and suggestions for planning trips each day. they have been here a long time and know the area. did not eat dinner here but the irish breakfast was the best. the room was so comfortable in this georgian house, once part of a large estate associated with ashford castle. the large room was inviting with the most comfortable bed, sitting area and nice bathroom. i did not hear a sound both times i stayed here and got such a restful and refreshing rest every night. in the evening guests were in the sitting area/living room downstairs by a fireplace enjoying a drink with elaine and henry having a chat. the nearby village had nice little shops and pubs. this hotel, which actually is a combination of guesthouse, elegant county home, is furnished with tasteful furnishing; and is the perfect location for day trips to the wonderful multiple surroundings in the area. a most unique stay to savor and not to be missed !
i have stayed in many places in my trips to ireland over the years, and this is one of the best.

A tad off the beaten track, this lovely manor house does not disappoint. Surrounded by spacious lawns and flower beds, each room is beautifully and comfortably appointed. Greeted with Irish hospitality by the owners, we were shown a very large room for our 2 night stay and dinner reservations were suggested. Dinner begins with appertifs in the bar, followed by dinner in the formal dining room. Food is very good. The owner, Mr. Reid goes out of his way to visit with guests and talk about Ireland and local events, while server (reminiscent of butler Jeeves), takes orders and serves. The hotel is in a good location for touring Connemara, The Burren and Kylemore Abbey.

My husband and I sent the Bank Holiday Weekend in this lovely hotel. From the moment we arrived we totally enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and the bed was really comfortable. All bed linen, towels etc were snow white and excellent quality. Breakfast on both mornings was freshly cooked. I absolutely hate a buffet breakfast where food is being kept warm under lamps! The quality of all produce used was excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We had dinner in the hotel on our second night and again this was excellent. We found the the owners to be excellent hosts and the atmosphere in the bar was really friendly. Everybody joined in the conversation and it was very pleasant. We both hope to return to this wonderful hotel next year, if not before.

Ross Lake House and its charming hosts, Henry and Elaine, represent a style of accommodation and hospitality that is increasingly rare these days. The hotel and its grounds clearly have seen better days but the interior retains all the charm of a period country house. And guests are made to feel like guests, not customers. Henry presides over the front of house with a very welcoming amiability and is happy to chat about anything and everything in a very engaging manner. Elaine ensures that the kitchen provides good, simple food where the quality of the ingredients come first. Dinner is a civilised affair orchestrated to great effect by a splendid head waiter of the old school. Our bedroom was clean and simply furnished but there were no tea/coffee making facilities. There is wifi only in the public rooms (but not in the bar, please, as Henry believes that to be anti-social). Breakfast was competent rather than special and the absence of a fish dish on the menu was a disappointment. This hotel is expensive for its class and facilities but does represent a unique experience.

My Wife and I spent one night at Ross Lake House. We found ourselves wishing we didn't have to leave. This small cozy property feels like home. Intimate space and an incredible staff. We had one of the best meals on our trip in the restaurant and breakfast in the morning was equally good. Highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a unique experience in a rural countryside setting.

Lovely Georgian house - very homely and nicely furnished throughout. Large bedroom and bathroom. Henry the owner is a great mine of information and a very welcoming and entertaining host. Elaine's cooking is fabulous and was one of the most well rounded and well cooked five course meals we have had on this trip, also a very good wine list. Lovely little bar and pretty grounds - good location for touring. Very good value for money 10/10.

Only stayed one night at this delightful Georgian house hotel, hidden down a country lane near a beautiful fast flowing river, but we could have stayed forever!
Hosts Henry and Elaine were absolutely wonderful. The actual building is very picturesque and the location even more so. Our room was enormous, complete with extremely comfortable, 4 poster bed and beautiful furnishings plus free WIFI. The bathroom was very large and the bath towels were extra big and soft.
Dinner was 5 courses of beautifully cooked food by Elaine, and served delightfully by Henry, who was the perfect host and a wealth of local information. He gave us excellent assistance to plan the remainder of our journey and recommended variety of places to visit and a hotel to stay in for our next night which proved just as wonderful!
This hotel does have free WIFI in all areas - despite what some internet booking sites say - it definitely does have internet access.
We took a walk before dinner to a lake where we discovered a fairy tale grotto under the pine tree plantation near the lake - got some fabulous photos here.
The house has a wonderful library bar, a beautiful drawing room and a lovely dining room.
Breakfast was more than ample and once again cooked to perfection by Elaine.
We loved our stay at Ross Lake hotel and if you choose to stay here you will not be disappointed in anything!!

Room Tip: Free WIFI, huge comfortable beds & great food!
