We loved the location; the rooms were very nice-spacious and clean. I was confused about dinner service; there seemed to be an agenda that I wasn't aware of and couldn't follow. It seemed there were rules about the progression. The food was very good and the owners quite helpful.

I stayed here with my husband and our baby in April. It was our 2nd visit to the Rosslake. We had stayed here a few years ago and were very impressed so decided to return for a night having spent 2 nights in Salthill. The stay was as good as our last. The hotel is tucked away off the main road and surrounded by woodland, there is a lovely feel of peace and tranquility about the place. The hosts Elaine and Henry are extremely friendly and helpful. We didn't leave the hotel during our stay, we had a few drinks in the bar and dinner in the restaurant which suited us perfectly with a baby in tow. The food was excellent, we both had fish, everything tasted so fresh and was cooked to perfection. The breakfast next morning was excellent and was cooked to order which makes a nice change from the buffet style breakfast in most hotels. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We would like to recommend this hotel.
We made the reservation by e-mail without problem. This beautiful house is located near Oughterard in quiet place. The gardens are beautifully maintained and the house is very warm decorated. Our room was very nice and quiet although it was on the parking/garden side. Maybe in high season it would be better to have a room on the other side (garden side). Our hosts Elaine and Henry were very kind and gave us great tips. Our dinner and our breakfast were very good.

We stayed here for 3 nights with our 4 month old baby. On our arrival we were shown to our suite room, which was a good size with great views over the gardens. Despite the room having period furniture, it was spotlessly clean and dust free, something that I find many rooms with antique furnishings fall down on.

The room has no tea/coffee making facilities, which for us meant no kettle for the baby's bottles, however on requesting a kettle for this reason, one was produced within minutes. No fuss made.

We sat up and had drinks in the bar with the hosts Elaine and Henry one night as they told us stories of the hotel, and generally had a good chinwag. They are lovely hosts and make you feel perfectly at home. Joe the butler deserves a special mention for his Irish charm and service qualities. The dinner in the evenings is done by Elaine, and is brilliantly cooked, homely food. It is a tad costly for what you get, however we happily paid for the service and atmosphere we received.

Location wise, it is "out of the way" which was perfect for us, but it you like to walk to a local pub or shop it's not for you. Galway is enchanting, and we loved it, but most of all we fell in love with Ross lake house hotel, and have already talked about returning!

So, this is not my sort of place, but you have to grant the owners their due. This is a medium sized country house with an ugly flat roofed annex by Lough Corrib in Galway. Though it is not on the lake, the grounds are lovely with trees, streams and rhododendrons. The rooms were normal but very, very clean and neat. The welcome was very real and true. The food was very well cooked, if not radically adventurous. My father loved it and thought it was the best ever. I thought it was very old fashioned, out of time; we were served by a James Bond character from Casino Royale (the David Niven version) and it was all too intimate for me. I like my hotels more impersonal but others might like it (like my father).

Hotel is in an idyllic, remote area outside of Oughterard. It is a beautiful manor home with antique furniture. Henry and Elaine give special attention to guests and were the highlight to this place. She is an excellent cook and you need to let her know in advance when you will dine. You order your meal in a quaint bar as dinner is prepared. Henry gives great tour suggestions and helped us locate distant relatives. It was so refined that we stayed another day. This place ranks with luxury, castle hotels and is priced accordingly.
Connemara is a very pleasant section of Ireland, although the cottages with thatched roofs have been replaced with new homes. When you drive in remote areas, don't be surprised about sheep roaming on roads.

Room Tip: Rooms are priced by size and we were upgraded.

Looking for something a little different for a special anniversary weekend we booked the Ross Lake House Hotel. We weren't disappointed! As the other reviews here have mentioned the Ross Lake is a special hotel. Ideally situated as a base to tour round the breathtaking Connemara countryside, you're also just 25 minutes from Galway city and all it has to offer too.

Ross Lake is a lovely period manor house and our four-poster bedroom was very tastefully appointed. But it was the owners, Henry and Elaine that were what really made our stay special. Elaine's marvellous evening meals in the restaurant were a delight and Henry was such a fantastically entertaining host. He even took the time to show us a great route to follow as we set out each morning to make the most of our time in Connemara too, his local knowledge was so useful.

If you're looking for a hotel with personalty then this is the place for you. We have such great memories of our Connemara trip - thank you Henry and Elaine for all your hospitality!
