This was the last stop for 2 nights on our honeymoon trip before we drive back to Dublin to fly back home. First off, from the get go we got a weird vibe from Henry as he greeted us. I felt like we were being stereotyped as young party people looking to trash the place from some of the comments Henry made. We met up with another couple during dinner our first night (which was also ridiculously overpriced) and decided to go out to one of the local pubs with them. I didn't see the interaction, but from my understanding, Henry was unwilling to assist in coordinating transportation for us once he realized where we were going. We took care of the taxi ourselves and on arrival, Henry followed us out and made a comment directly to me to make sure we have our key, and "you're not going to come back and trash the place right?" We had a great night with the other couple and then came back and quietly went to our rooms. The next morning, my wife went to eat breakfast and met up with the other couple and grabbed a table next to them. Henry made her get up and move to a different table across the room for some reason. I felt the house was nice enough, but the owners need to understand that people under 40 years of age aren't all looking to party hard and be careless with other peoples property. Hopefully they take this review to heart and improve on their customer interactions. I personally won't ever find out for sure if they do or not though since I will never stay there again.

We booked this spot based on the 4 star rating and excellent reviews and were somewhat disappointed. Property is quite dated, rooms were very basic and service was something out of Monty Python.

The property itself was charming, tucked down a winding country lane with fields of sheep and idyllic vistas. But the house was surrounded by a car park which detracted from the charm significantly. We were required to get a second room at check in for our children, ages 10 & 12 - not only a surprise but a significant expense. The kids room was much nicer than our own which was tired, lacking in any sort of decor and smelled of roach spray. Beds were hard and pillows flat. When I asked for a duvet for the bed I was told to: " turn up the heat". I had to ask 3 times before they produced a twin size duvet so I could sleep.

Breakfast was the highpoint of our stay. A charming breakfast room with formal elegant service. The food was fresh and delicious.

I'd rate this place 3 stars at best. There is a lot they could do to improve the place.

Easter 2014

My wife and I spent three nights over the Easter period at this idyllic and remote setting. The hotel location is a good starting point to visit the outstanding beauty of Connemara. The house itself is set in secluded beautiful grounds – a truly tranquil setting! Accommodation at Ross Lake is very good, clean and comfortable, with antique furniture throughout. If you are looking for genuine Irish hospitality and delicious food (with a decent wine selection) then Ross Lake House Hotel is the place for you! Our friendly hosts Henry and Elaine, together with Joe and other staff, were very helpful and attentive during our stay. All in all a fabulous holiday – wishing to return soon and sample more of Elaine’s homemade Wheaten bread.......

Room Tip: There is no lift so ask for a ground floor room if needed.

My husband and I stayed at Ross Lake House for one night in October 2013 and it was a really lovely getaway. The House is about 20 minutes by car from Galway city, a few miles on from the village of Maigh Cuilinn. The tree-lined roadway up to the house was beautiful, and there is a stunning river on the grounds. The countryside where the House is located is gloriously silent. We had a deluxe room named after a former Landlord which had a gorgeous four poster bed; we slept really really well! Everything was very clean. The House was beautifully warm and snug and the owners were very welcoming. Breakfast was hearty rather than gourmet but otherwise couldn't be faulted. I would recommend it for a romantic getaway; the perfect antidote to busy city living.

We stayed at the Ross Lake House for two nights in September, our visit was very enjoyable and we highly recommend it. The House dates from the mid 1800's (with renovations and additions since then) and some of that character remains; high ceilings, large comfortable rooms, a separate living room and bar, and attractive grounds. The House is set back a distance from the main road and feels as though you're at an estate in the woods - very pleasant. Henry and Elaine (the owners) are wonderful hosts and excellent company and my wife and I will look forward to staying with them again.
