“Extremely basic - espically the food”
Reviewed 12 July 2010

THe room itself was fine...basic but fine...no major complaints here but the food was bad. We got orange juice for starters (weird) and I got the breaded fish which was very much processed fish (lower standard than donegal catch type). The vegtables were Lidl!! I mean if a restaurant can't even make it's own food it's embarrassing!!!!! It was also extremely noisy at all times due to a huge volume of bus tours staying here. If I had known it was a hotel that catered for bus tours in such big volumes I would not have booked. On the plus side the music was good in the bar!!

When our coach party arrived, it was later in the evening, 9.30pm, than the expected time of 5 in the afternoon. Despite this, the hotel staff greeted us with such friendliness, worked long hours to make sure we were well fed with a mouth watering meal. All week the staff bent over backwards to accommodate our every need and we really enjoyed our trip to Ireland. There was plenty of hot water all day and all night, the rooms were warm and clean and the beds were so comfortable. Some of our evenings were spent in the hotel bars, dancing and singing. One morning one of the hotel management, Will, went out of his way and drove myself and my pal to Willie Daly the matchmaker's pony treking farm where we spent a memorable morning taking in the stupendous Irish culture. Lisdoonvarna has a lot to offer the traveler looking for a relaxing but entertaining holiday, try the town hall Thurs evenings for bingo! you get a lovely welcome, and it's all for the local Cystic Fibrosis charity.

Amazingly efficient staff, very friendly and helpful.
Hotel runs like clockwork, caters for Tour groups.Service spot on , nothing too much trouble in catering for customer needs.
Public areas tastefully furnished with bar and occassional live music.
Rooms comfortable with tea/ cofee making facilities.
Situated on edge of village opposite the Spa, unfortunately the spa is under renovation until sometime in September 2008 village also famous for its annual matchmaking event, held in local pub.

This is a large hotel which is mainly used by foreign coach trips. This did not put my wife or myself off, and we were looked after extremely well. The bedrooms are large and quite, and it is in an excellent location to tour The Burren.
The food is a Table D’hôte but surprisingly good. Much better than eating up the road. It is much cheaper to stay there for 3 days, ask about their current 3 day rate.
Two things did annoy me however. If you charge a drink to your room they charge an additional 20C per drink. We also made three very short telephone calls from the room all within Ireland and was charged 9 euro! After remonstrating, this was reduced to 5 euro.

our 5 day stay at the hotel was very comfortable. The food was enjoyable and the staff very friendly - however when coming to pack to leave the hotel we realised an amount of jewellery and personal belongings had been taken from our room. The Police were involved, but not much help really - the incident was reported at 4pm and the police arrived at 9.45pm! So please beware when leaving anything in the hotel room. (Our belongings were hidden away in two bags in a drawer). Apart from this was an enjoyable holiday and i would definately visit the area again.

My wife and i have just returned from a trip to Ireland, and our second hotel was the Hydro hotel in lisdoonvarna, where we stayed for three nights. As our coach pulled up we were hoping for a better stay than our previous hotel, the Ardmore in Dublin, see review.,but as soon as we stepped through the doors, somethging just felt better.
A smiling receptionist, welcomed us to the Hydro, handed us our keys, and pointed us in the right direction for our room, which as it was on the ground floor, was very easy to find, our cases soon followed.
The room was reaaly nice ,clean and fresh and spotless.
there was a double bed and a single,as well as a decent sized bathroom, with a good shower over a bath, plenty of nice white towels, perhaps a new toilet seat would have been nice ours looked almost as old as the hotel, but like everthing else it was clean.
Plenty of hanging space and drawers for your bits, and a kettle and tea/coffee making stuff, also a hairdryer good for the wife,my bit dries itself in no time at all.
The hotel itself is brill with old photographs as well as some unusual artwork, but it all seems to work well together.Comfy seats everywhere, the only downside for me was the number of large Tvs.I think there were three maybe four scattered about the place, although you could turn them off if you wanted to.
But for me it was the staff, they were simply put brilliant, alawys a smile and a hello, nothing was too much trouble, either in the restaurant, where the food was excellant, more than i would have expected for a three star hotel,to the bar staff and people on reception. My wife quietly mentioned that she found her pillow a liittle firm, and by the time we returned to our room later we had nine piloows in our room some softer than others.
The entertainment was a bit rubbish, but a short stroll down the road to the Rathbone hotel had some good irish entertainment.
So to sum it all up,this was a great hotel, excellent food and the best staff I have ever encountered,If you are planning a trip to this part of Ireland give the hydro a try,I find it hard to believe you wouldn't enjoy yourself.

  • Liked — staff freindliness
  • Disliked — too many tvs poor entertainment

Stayed there with my family a while back
The room was excellent with a double bed and a single.
Bathroom was quite nice as well.
Dinner was quite average with the portions being quite small. Staff were quite courteous and quite attentive.
Next morning breakfast was quite good although it was table service and for breakfast I really prefer getting your own but that is just my quirk. Coffee and toast were plentiful.
All in all would definitely go back. Thankfully we missed the disco on the Friday night which was supposed to have been loud.
