“Good value, nice staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

Hotel larger than it looks! Much extended. popular with coach parties - but they tend to arrive late in the day, & leave early. Although the dining room looked packed with the coach parties, & noisy, we (not part of a large group) were seated in a virtually separate room. Also large & nicely decorated, but not crowded! Staff all really helpful, especially Charlotte on reception, who made great recommendations about places to go & things to do, even booked a boat trip for us over the phone. Made really welcome. Room small but adequate for a night's sleep. No wifi in rooms, but available on landing areas.

Room Tip: Rooms at rear on upper floors have nice views over open country

Spent two nights in this hotel and enjoyed it. It is an older hotel and is in need of some TLC, but having said that the staff were helpfull and friendly. One minor issue cropped over over a breakdown in communication with one of the migrant staff in the restaurant, but this was quickly resolved by a good will gesture.

Basic, but does what it says on the tin.

The hotel is set on the main road but do not let that put you off, the staff are hard working and go that extra yard to make you welcome, the hotel is clean and tidy and the food is excellent. Overall a three star hotel that should be four stars

The hotel looks a bit jaded from the outside but is bright and air in the foyer. Very clean, the staff work hard to retain that standard. the menu was varied and the meals were well presented, my only gripe was the lack of imagination when it came to serving new potatoes every night with no other alternative. The room was clean with all that was needed for a comfortable stay. The stars of this hotel are the staff, so attentive and caring.

We stayed at this hotel early May 2014. The hotel has been refurbished and the rooms were light, clean and airy. We did ask for a nice view, but overlooked the main street and the local take away however the streets were quiet and the take away came in handy one of the nights we were there as my hubby didn't fancy anything on the menu. I found the food really nice apart from the fact it was a set menu with a good choice, but we prefer buffet style help yourself meals, The staff were mostly students on exchange to learn the language and a bit more training wouldn't have gone amiss, they were a bit like headless chickens and didn't have a clue how to do silver service and would reach across to serve people rather than go around the table. They were clearly very inexperienced and nervous and on one occasion I got my main before my starter and then got a meal I hadnt actually ordered and was brought 2 more, before the right one did arrive. I did feel a bit sorry for them as it wasn't really their fault, although the restaurant manager was very helpful and when she found out that my hubby didn't like the menu she arranged for alternatives. The weather was against us and we felt we had to go on the excursions (not included in the price) as there was nothing to do in the area. We enjoyed our trips out and the driver was very informative. It was a nice place but the travelling from Dublin was far too long as we had to go across to the west coast and didn't arrive at the hotel until 9pm, we had to go straight in for dinner as the staff were waiting for us. The meal was cold and dried up as obviously been cooked hours before, but we were so tired and hungry no one really cared and we all went to bed early (15 hours of travelling was too much for us all). Lahinch was lovely although not a lot to do and see, but peaceful and relaxing. Galway Bay was beautiful even though a bit overcast, Visiting the portal tomb on The Burren was fascinating. Aran isles were only a blob in the distance due to the weather and no one fancied going on the ferry as the sea was so rough, but I imagine on a good day it would have been a nice trip out. Aran Isles was where Father Ted was filmed. The Cliffs of Moher were extremely windy and it rained buckets, but the exhibition centre was interesting to get out of the rain Ireland is a very laid back country, but very expensive, even pub meals and drinks so take plenty of euros with you. Lisdoonvarna is a spa town, but the spa was only open on the Bank Holiday Monday and shut the rest of the week. Only one hotel was open which was ours, but the Matchmaker bar adjacent was popular and had a reputatation for people meeting hence the name. Altogether a nice holiday, but probably wouldn't go as far as this again due to the travelling. The resession has hit Ireland hard as there were many hotels and businesses closed down. We only saw a handful of people in the town and although there was a primary and secondary school we saw no children. I really dont know what people do there. The little gift shop close to the hotel was very reasonably priced although the owner wasn't particularly friendly.

Room Tip: We had room 2 on the first floor, easily accessible. Some of the rooms were quite small, but the on...

Staying in this hotel on a Saturday night in May.
Its an honest hotel that does what it is supposed to deliver.
Everything is clean, although nothing special, the room is well kept and clean, lots of towels in the bathroom, there is functioning WiFi in the rooms as well.
The breakfast is served, rather than being a buffet, but still gives a decent choice, even if you have to ask for another glass of juice, coffee etc.
Service was excellent, both from the evening porter and from the young waiter at breakfast!
Only complaint is that there is no private car park, though there is a communal car park on the other side of the street.

Room Tip: Rooms higher up have a decent view of the village

This is a great hotel at B&B prices. The corridors are old but the rooms are renovated, fresh and finished to a good quality. The best part is the 5 star bed. This hotel was a great surprise, I normally don't go for this type of big hotel, that caters for bus loads of tourists.

Room Tip: Get a room right at the back of the hotel over looking the rolling green countryside.
