“Reformed Viking Warrior Captains this boat!”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

He must have been one in a former life because his knowledge is so vast concerning this tribe and he tells their story so well. It's a real pleasure to travel with Michael as he brings you up river and relates the history of their time in Ireland. HIs boat is a Heritage boat and is of all wooden construction but up to date with all safety gear as required . You are protected from the weather if it is inclement but still in contact with the waters edge. His masthead of a dragon tops off a craft dedicated to the Vikings and is the Captains pride and joy. If you travel upriver with him do ask him to tell you about Rindoon Castle and Safe Harbour further upstream and well worth finding your way there afterwards.

“Excellent service Great tour!”
Reviewed 27 May 2014 via mobile

Recently organised a group booking of 15 people with Mike, they came from all paets of Europe and found that this trip was one of their highlights in Ireland. The live commentary from Mike stole the shiw for them, not ti mention the views along the way. Would recommend this for group bookings in future,Mike was very accomodating.

“RSAI boat trip from Athlone to Clonmacnoise”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

The approach to Clonmacnoise by water is a truly magical experience and definitely worth the trip. Many thanks to Michael for facilitating our group of archaeology-interested folk and allowing us to take over the boat! His local knowledge really added to the trip, and his ease and good humour with everyone was much appreciated.

“If in Athlone with kids this is a must!!”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

Just brilliant tour, four kids aged six to ten all loved it. Between bird watching and viking watching they had a ball. The captain has an outstanding knowledge of the history, flora and fauna of the region so lots to learn. He was so patient with the kids allowing them pose with his captains hat on and letting each one take a turn at the helm ...under his watchful gaze I might add!! His assistant George was friendly and kind and answered all our questions. He provided us with complementary teas and coffees and for €5 the kids got viking hats and swords very reasonable, 10 for adults and 5 for kids for 75min trip up Shannon. One stop at Hudson Bay hotel so you can pick up , get dropped off the trip here on most tours so river taxi into Athlone could be an option if staying out at Hudson Bay ?? Boat lovely inside comfortable and safe, smooth trip and I don't have good sea legs. Highly recommend this!!

“Unique view of Athlone.”
Reviewed 5 May 2014

Athlone was a strategic crossing point on the Shannon for hundreds of years. It's only when you get a unique view of Athlone and the river from the fabulous Viking Boat that you realise how this town of two halves played such an important part in Irish history.
