If you stay here towards the end of the week or a weekend - be warned that there is a nightclub below! However, we stayed on a Tuesday and no noise from the bars or club. The room was massive - never slept in a bed that was sooo huge! Hot room though and the fan that was provided helped a little.

We recently stayed in the Prince of Wales for a short break. The location of the hotel is excellent, you can leave your car parked in the hotel carpark and get around everywhere on foot because the location is so central. We would like to say a very special thanks to michelle on reception and paddy in the bar/restaurant as when we were there my boyfriend surprised me by proposing and everyone made us feel so special on the announcement of our exciting news. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay again.

My husband and I stayed at The Prince of Wales on an overnight in Athlone recently. We pre-paid our room and got a deal of €75.00 bed and breakfast for the two of us.

We have stayed at this hotel before but it has been a while since our last visit. We were delighted to find that the hotel staff were as welcoming and friendly as ever and our room left nothing wanting in comfort and cleanliness.

On arrival, we were checked in quickly and we were pleased to see that we had been allocated a room to the rear of the hotel, as per our special request on booking. What I like about this hotel, is that they send you an email on the day before your travel, basically welcoming you and letting you know any hotel news etc. - its a nice touch in customer service.

We had a lovely nights sleep in our bed which was huge and very comfortable, and enjoyed a lovely breakfast the following morning. There is a great variety of food on the breakfast menu and our orders were served to us quickly and without fuss.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who like other reviewers have said, is in a prime central location in Athlone with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from within a stone's throw of the front door. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the second floor and to the rear of the building - they are much quieter!

we stayed midweek in this hotel which was very clean, staff were friendly and it was in the centre of everything. The room was a good size but quite warm so they had fans in the room. The only quibble I would have is when we opened the window there were tons of youngsters at the shop across from the hotel and they were very noisy. The food was excellent and the bar area very nice. There was also an excellent fish & chip shop close by with lovely home made chips yummy and a great pub with irish music called sean ogs I think the oldest pub in ireland aparently and the staff and landlord were very friendly. overall a lovely town to visit. We had planned a trip on the viking up the river but it spilled rain and we took a rain check.

Located right in the center of Athlone all the restaurants and pubs are within walking distance - and many of the restaurants are outstanding! The hotel is clean, friendly, probably larger than it feels, and is one of the best hotel deals we've found in Ireland. The rooms are quite comfortable and we slept like rocks here - obviously it must have been very quiet out in the halls or I would have noticed. The rooms have safes in them which is extremely convenient and thoughtful on the hotel's part. I'm not one to rave about bathrooms, but the shower had two shower heads and well, frankly made getting cleaned up after a day enjoying the outdoors, a real treat. Singing in the shower stuff. This hotel really was enjoyable without pulling on the purse strings. And that's much appreciated. The front desk staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. And a private parking lot put the cherry on the soda!

My husband & I stayed here for one night, We were in room 206 which was overlooking the main Rd & church. The staff were very welcoming & made sure everything was OK for us. The room was very clean & airy & the bathroom was a good size with toiletries & plenty of towels. I had a goid nights sleep despite being on the main street. The breakfast was adequate & I had the vegetarian option which was lovely. Coffee was great too. We would stay here again as the staff are lovely.

The room was great, good-sized and nicely laid out. It was also clean and comfortable. It was hotter than blazes but they couldn't do much about it other than to provide fans which helped. We were told Ireland hasn't had a summer like this one (lots of great sun but very high temps) in 15 years. They're simply not equipped for weather as hot as it was in July because it's not typical Irish weather. But the hotel is very nice and the staff were friendly, gracious, and helpful. Its location is prime, within easy walking distance of several shops, restaurants, boat tours, the castle, beautiful church, bus depot, etc.
