“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 8 July 2013

From the moment we arrived till the moment we left this hotel proved great in every way. The staff could not be better or more helpful & Rachel on reception is an asset to the hotel. Our room was amazing & the food in both bar and restaurant were lovely. Had breakfast in our room both mornings and it arrived nice and hot, something not all hotels seem capable of. Can't wait to visit it again.

This hotel was a surprise in that after winding through a golf course we came upon this oasis sitting on the edge of a beautiful expanse of water called Lough Ree. The hotel is an amazing blend of old and new with the original hotel being the main reception, function rooms, restaurant and bar with newly added breakfast area overlooking the Lough and then a new accommodation section linking to the main section through a winter garden area. Staff seemed competent and courteous and certainly were quick to smile and say hello whenever we walked around the complex. We had a room overlooking the Lough from the newer accommodation area and the view was superb. We could have stayed in the room all day and just taken in the view, but there were things to do around the area.

Room Tip: Rooms in the newer accommodation block are worth the extra euro.

Booked in for a 2 nights stay, rooms were very nice and clean.
Pool area excellent, had a few drinks in the bar, mixed crowd, busy with a wedding.
Breakfast was excellent , a bit busy, but thats to be expected !
Had dinner in hotel, could not fault it. Went to the wine tasting, good laugh. The chaps name (cant remember it) was very friendly and understood we were only there for a laugh. In fairness to him he approached us at dinner and offered us a glass of wine to match our food !
Could not fault the hotel !

Room Tip: ask for a view of the lake !

We have stayed at the Hodson Bay Hotel a number of times and our recent stay was as excellent as all the others. This is the ideal location for a relaxing getaway. There are beautiful views over Lough Ree. Highly recommended. Beds extremely comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask for a lake-view room!

Our Golf Society from Ballycastle in North Mayo stayed there last weekend on our annual away trip; the staff were very professional and courteous, the rooms were spotless, the pool and gym were much better than others we have stayed in and the food was fantastic. The hotel was busy and its easy to see why. Keep up the good work.
We are considering calling this our annual away trip to Hodson Bay!

Room Tip: Just ask when booking, the staff are excellent; professional, courteous and friendly.

Stayed at this Hotel in May for 2 nights. My partner and I both liked this Hotel and our room was overlooking the Lake. Unfortunately the weather was dull and overcast so I would say on a sunny day the views would be even more beautiful. The food was really nice in the restaurant, we loved the Leisure Centre too. We took a taxi in to Athlone town for a meal one evening, too far to walk. Had a lovely meal there and took a taxi back to hotel. That's the only downside to the location if you want to be near the town. There are lovely lake drives around here which we did so all in all would recommend this hotel for a leisurely break with lots of scenery to enjoy.

Thank you for your charming review on Trip Advisor. I was really happy to hear that you and your partner have such high recommendations of your recent stay at The Hodson Bay Hotel.

I was delighted to hear that you enjoyed the scenery around the hotel and we feel very privileged to be located in this wonderful nature reserve. During peak seasons and at designated times, the ‘Viking Ship’ departs our Harbour and sails to the Castle right in the heart of Athlone town. This is an enjoyable way to appreciate and take in the scenery on your way into town.

We would love to see you both back at the hotel in the future. If you do decide to return, please make sure to contact me as I would like to thank you in person for your review and valued custom.
