“As good as it gets!”
Reviewed 30 October 2012

I'm not the sort of person to write reviews, but we have just spent three nights in Alverna house and it was so good I felt compelled to let everyone know just what a beautiful place it is...Niamh was a fantastic host, friendly, more than happy to take time to talk and answer questions. The rooms are en-suit, large, warm, clean and very comfortable with the feel of a hotel. Having been out all three nights in Athlone we all needed just a wee bit longer in bed than normal. (Athlone pubs are good as well). Niamh was very accommodating and allowed us to have our breakfast at a time that to be honest was slightly embarrassing...and what a breakfast...everything tasty fresh and lots of it, fruit, bread, juice, muffins, cereal and cooked breakfasts as you want. one of our party was coeliac and again Niamh was knowledgeable understanding and accommodating. If you do find you self needing a place to stay whilst visiting Athlone you wont do much better than this. The reviews already on this site I can only add to. It is a beautiful house very family friendly. I have stayed in vastly more expensive hotels that aren't a patch on Alverna House. Highly Recommended.

It is only on a rare occasion that you can drive home from a stay away, thinking to yourself...........That was perfect! One such experience has lead me to write this review. Having worked in a five star hotel for 5years....I can honestly say that Alverna house is as good as it gets. In contrast to faceless, busy hotels with thoughless decor and conveyerbelt-like service, Niamh, the propietor of this spotless, welcoming and stylish B & B, curbs this recent trend! Having gotten the basics right, Niamh has the perfect personality and attention to detail!

Apart from greeting us most welcomingly (at a late hour), Niamh went the extra mile to ensure we had the best experience possible. From great reccomendations for Athlone town, to arranging us transport. The room was spotlessly clean with very classy decor (no expenses saved!!)

The Great value for money, Ease of Parking, Yummy bikies and tea in the room, Crisp towels, Gigantic Shower, Comfy Beds and the Filling, tasty breaky left us in want of nothing but more time to enjoy the Pool room!! Well done to Niamh:)

When we arrived to Alverna House late Friday night, we were welcomed by Niamh into a clean and homely atmosphere. The house was modern and beautifully decorated. Each had fresh bedlinen and plenty of tea and biscuits- much to our delight! The following morning we entered the dining room where we were greeted with fruit, cereals, scones, breads and to top it all off a freshly made Irish breakfast. I would recommend this B&B to anyone staying in the area as it caters for all needs and people of all ages. Looking forward to staying here again on my next visit to Athlone :)

We arrived early on saturday night at the Alverna, Niamh was there to greet us and was very warm and welcoming. I had already emailed her regarding organising a taxi for us, and we then decided to eat in Athlone, so she organised a table for us in a local bistro and the taxi man to take and pick up us to Ballinasloe. The B&B is beautiful and so fresh and new and clean, and the rooms are fantastic – we had a large room and felt very comfortable in there – the beds were very good!!! Niamh cooked us a great breakfast the next morning and we left for the fair, absolutely stuffed to the rafters, we will be going back next year – it was a short distance from Ballinsloe Fair, and a straight drive from Dublin, Niamhs directions were great!!! Thanks Niamh for a lovely quick visit, see you next year!

My husband & I stayed at Alverna House for 2 nights as my husband was playing in a golf tournament at Athlone Golf Club. Niamh and Ronan made us feel at home right away and our room & en suite were wonderful. I have never stayed in such a luxurious b&b. Our breakfasts were excellent and set us up for the day. Nothing was too much trouble for Niamh. The house is beautiful and I would certainly recommend Alverna House to anyone and will certainly stay there again if we are in Athlone. 5* ++
