During the Christmas season we decided to venture out to glasson for an evening meal with friends! Everywhere was busy and they said they could fit us in! We all had a variety of starters and main courses and each one was absolutely terrific! There a attention to detail is excellent! They transformed simple dishes for example salmon into a real different tasting experience! The staff (Shirley and Eireen) were extremely friendly and the place came across very homely and warm! We had a 3 course meal and two bottles of wine and we thought the price was very reasonable! I would definitely recommend a visit here to anyone looking for a good evening out!!

Having organized a babysitter we drove to Glassan for the rare treat of Sunday lunch without a baby on either of our laps. We had read excellent reviews and were expecting "the best Sunday lunch in Ireland". Sadly, it was not so. We were seated in a side room heated by a headache inducing super ser heater. Having ordered in the lobby we had barely settled in our chairs when our starters were placed in front of us- warm chicken salad and sole goujons (incidentally spelled gougons on the menu)- both of a reasonable standard. As soon as I placed the last forkful in my mouth my plate was whipped from under my nose while my husband had at least a quarter of his left and continued to eat. The main courses arrived within moments- pork with chorizo and shriveled over-cooked reheated roast beef with potatoes and vegetables. If I paid 5 euro for the beef main course in a hospital canteen I'd have tolerated it. We decided not to have dessert/tea/coffee. The bill included a glass of wine which we ordered but never received- we contested this and it was removed. The waitress kindly offered a drink each on the house but we declined such was the indigestion that followed a 38 minute 2 course meal. Needless to say we will not return. Bitterly disappointing as we had such high hopes.

This has to be the best eating experience in the Midlands of Ireland, and is well worth going to for the quality of the food. Once again Michael Brooks came up trumps, with the group enjoying all the various dishes presented, especially the duck, and of course my regular Steak Tartare, the latter never on the menu, but always available if you ask. Complimented by an excellent Chablis, and a really good offering of puddings as well. Thanks very much, Michael, we will be back on our next visit in January.
