“Lovely hotel on Lough Ree with exceptional food.”
Reviewed 7 June 2011

We stayed 2 nights at the Wineport Lodge.
All the rooms have a balcony with wonderful lake views. Do not expect unobstructed lake views as there are some tall trees growing in front of a number of rooms.

Little extras in the room are a nice touch like the complimentary water, cookies, and the L'Occitane products. A newspaper is delivered to the room every morning and you can have breakfast in the room at no extra charge.

The food during our stay was amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
There was a bit of a wait before dinner (over an hour) which we passed having a pre-dinner cocktail and wasn't an issue for us. The quality of the food throughout our stay was exceptional.

There is a hot tub and sun area on the roof but this area does not have the lake views, which is a shame.

Do be aware there are two different spa rates, one for Mon-Thurs and add another €15-€20 for the weekend. This was disappointing.

Overall the staff and the food really made our stay and we have already recommended the restaurant to others.

Just back from a one night stay in Wineport Lodge during the recent bank holiday weekend.

Having stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world and in Ireland I got to say there is a lot of Irish charm about Wineport Lodge that you do not get in many of the 4/5 stars hotels. From the welcome at the reception to the personal walk to our rooms there is a definite customer service focus which is also great to see.

We had a waterfront suite which was of a good size and the position of the bed maximised the view of the lake. Besides from that it was fairly basic but again for me had an individual Irish feel to it even down to the music system and we had a great sleep (especially as we weren't woken up by our 18 month year old).

The highlight for us though was the food. We thought the food in the restaurant and the room service breakfast was first class and much better than more expensive and highly rated hotels.

For us it was a great break and we will be back for the friendly service, fine food and great views.

My husband and I stayed one night at this hotel, having done alot of research on the internet, prior to our stay. Norma, the Manageress is just lovely, very professional ,friendly and makes one welcome upon arrival. The Margeaux Suite was just fabulous, the views spectacular - small attention to detail, like cleanliness of bathroom - for this price, one expects perfection. Bar area is cosy, such a shame that there isn't an open fireplace, I know there is a fire, but one cannot really see and feel it..The restaurant, also quite nice, but the food DID NOT LIVE up to our expectations, we were expecting WOW and got NICE, but at WOW prices (for Ireland), this was bit disappointing, as the following night we stayed in Ballynahinch Castle Hotel and there it was WOW, Wow and again WOW. Am also unsure why the name WINEPORT, for me, it has nothing to do with WINE or it's culture, besides the fact that each room and suite is named after a wine.. Breakfast was very nice and again, lovely staff and very helpful. Another little let down...the filthy windows in the restaurant, which were very obvious during the morning, small things like I said, but overall, this hotel is nice, but it's the views and the lovely staff which actually make it......

Room Tip: The suites are really lovely and the views are fab

OK, fab hotel, fab service - we had a lovely romantic time..... but where there are hotel room balconys there will be SMOKERS!!!! and although hotels say all rooms are smoke free, in reality this isn't the case, because we had to close our balcony doors everytime a smoker would appear in the next rooms - so it sort of put a dampner on our views....(it doesn't help that I'm 8.5 months preggers - so avoiding passive smoke is important)

Other than that the food was amazing and everything else I just cannot fault.... I would go back here in a flash - it was relaxing and even though we only stayed one night, we felt like we were there longer and relaxed so much! Keep up the good work - !!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room not next to a smoker!!!!

We were delighted with a recent family celebration we held at Wineport Lodge. The food and service were both excellent while the restaurant had a lovely relaxed athmosphere which I find is often missing in higher class eateries. The staff were genuinely friendly also and interacted very naturally with the table.

I personally plan to return for another weekend later this year

We got married in February 2011 and are going abroad on honeymoon in the summer. We decided to go away for a few days the week after our wedding and we chose Wineport Lodge. OMG! It is absolutely fabulous. We had a fabulous time - they treated us so well. Champagne in our room to welcome us - "Congratulations" written on our desserts - it was just pure bliss from the moment we checked in. A lovely mini honeymoon. We certainly intend returning to the hotel. The staff are all lovely and make time to chat with everyone. The rooms are stunning and the views from same are breathtaking. The food was delicious. We cant wait to go back!
