One day and we're hooked! This will be our 'retreat' from the busyness of life..what wonderful service, food and accom. Pure relaxation. The food was excellent and we really felt looked after and a genuine interest in us.

We recently spent two nights at the Wineport Lodge. We had a lovely couple of days here, the room (Burgundy) was huge and fabulous and the view from our balcony was second to none. We dined in the restaurant on the first night and the service was good, but even though they have a vast wine list, our first two choices were unavailable on the night! We settled for a Malbec in the end, which was cheaper than our first choices and very nice. We had drinks in the bar before and after our meal and these were very nice, but also very expensive. The staff were extremely nice and helpful but to be honest, the prices would put me off visiting again unless it was for a very special occasion. We used to keep our boat at Quigleys marina a few years ago and we often went to the Wineport Lodge by boat for dinner and stayed on board overnight which is a really nice experience, maybe we will do this again sometime to make the experience less expensive and still have a treat!

The hotel, rooms and staff are amazing.
Unfortunately it seems the management don't feel the need to pay their staff when they're owed money. Though this was in 2008.
I would recommend but I feel the staff need to be treated (by management) like the customers are treated by the staff, which is like royalty!

Had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch here with the family. Food was good quality, reasonable value and service was fine in the restaurant. We ordered coffee's which weren't included in the two course lunch option and the charge for the two coffee's was 8 EURO!!

This charge is excessive by any standards for a regular coffee and a cappuccino. I will certainly return for the food but will consider alternative options for coffee!! I believe tea/coffee is included in the three course lunch option and whilst I don't mind paying when its not included, I don't expect to pay such a high price for standard coffees. There wasn't even a biscuit included which I have had previously with my coffee when having lunch in the bar area during the week.

Just back for a night here. Had a lovely time. Checked in at 4pm. Hubbie went for two hours of treatments (part of his birthday pressie) Junior and I went to our room - the Rioja. It was lovely with two big beds - very firm, a small seating area looking out at the lake and a huge bathroom with free standing bath and large wet area. Junior and I went for afternoon tea - coffee and scones with jam and cream. Yum. We headed for the rooftop Hot Tub - very hot (even outside when it was close to -1) Headed to the bar for a pre-dinner glass of Chardonnay - again delicious and then onto dinner. We had starters - Corn on the Cob for junior which he devoured, Chilli Chicken for hubbie and beef croquet for me. We followed this by Chicken gougons for junior, Duck for me and Steak for dad. Both myself and hubbie thought the mains were too salty. For dessert we had crumble, choclate mouse for me and a fruit face for junior. We washed this down with a bottle of Main au Main (Chardonnay). Restaurant service is a little slow.

The staff were lovely - we borrowed a dvd from reception.

Had breakfast - nice selection of breads and cereal and a good traditional irish as well.

A nice treat but too expensive to be done more often.

We recently spent a night in the Wineport Lodge. It's in a stunning location - right on the edge of Lough Ree near Athlone. It has its own jetty, waterside tables etc. I imagine it gets good restaurant business from cruisers on the Shannon in Summer. We were there in February and fortunately the sun was shining even though it was too cold to sit outside. The building is wooden: it looks as though it started as a relatively simple structure (the restaurant) and expanded into a much more sophisticated bedroom/spa area. All rooms appear to have lake views and private balconies; they are really superb, interestingly designed, not your usual rectangle. Nowhere are you overlooked by other rooms. There is a very comfortable lounge with a very welcome woodburning stove and bar. We found the staff to be very efficient and well trained. The food was superb, a relatively limited menu but prepared with imagination and with adequate portions; a dinner to rank among the best we have recently had. The restaurant is obviously well known judging by the number of diners on a Monday night. We did not use the spa so I can't comment. They have a rooftop (2 stories!) hot tub which we didn't try either.
Altogether a cosy, relaxing break with good food and great views. It probably wouldn't be so inviting on a miserable foggy day.

Enjoyed one night away with my wife on a Sunday night through a pigsback deal. Staff were polite and very attentive, Hotel and grounds are stunning and room was ready when we arrived. Some
very nice little touches. We got the Deluxe lakeview room so view was stunning overlooking the lake. We enjoyed dinner that evening, it was pricey but not unexpectantlly so and the food was top class fare. We had breakfast to the room the following morning and the only complaint was there was very little of it, very basic, but still piping hot and on time. I would not hesitate in recommending the hotel to anyone who would be looking for a romantic getaway.
