This place was fantastic! We stayed in the Long Loft Room and it was just as quirky and fun as it appears on the website. The beds are a bit IKEAish for my taste, but were comfy nonetheless and the continental breakfast was delicious. I knew nothing of Athlone, but it was a convenient place to stop and I'm so glad we did - great place to explore! Also, I was a little concerned about parking, but it was a breeze.

We stayed for one night in Athlone for a wedding, opting for the studio room which is in the building over the road from the main B&B. The room was nicely decorated, comfortable and had everything we needed - my girlfriend appreciated the hairdryer, and I liked the proper ground coffee. The owners were friendly and helpful.

Breakfast the following morning was the best bit - loads of good stuff: cheese, fruit, bagels, bread, muesli, yoghurt, and decent coffee and juice.

This was certainly the most unique B&B experience we've ever had. Our guess is that some folks will love this place (and their reviews certainly indicate that), but it will not be the best for others. It is in a great location, in the heart of the old west bank part of Athlone, right around the corner from the castle and adjacent bridge into the more business end of down town. And it is surrounded by restaurants and pubs, quaint shops etc. The B&B itself is in an ancient building with narrow stairways (lots of them), and is chock full of quirky art that ranges from modern style paintings to a glassed in display featuring a stuffed animal in the entrance way. It is neatly kept, but not the absolute cleanest place. The other guests tended to be young 20 somethings in town for an event or traveling through Ireland.

The bed was comfortable, the shower worked well and the room was quiet so we had a good nights sleep. Breakfast is continental, which actually turned out to be a nice break from the usual traditional Irish fry, as there was a great selection of fruit at perfect ripeness, Irish breads, bagels, and excellent coffee.

We picked this place on the basis of the Lonely Planet listing, and we were not at all disappointed. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet in spite of facing the front. The place is full of character and great eclectic art--from Rajasthani quilts to modern abstract paintings. The lounge/dining area is available to guests at all hours and I enjoyed this early in the AM when I could make a cup of tea. Breakfast was a generous "continental" including wonderful breads, fruits and cheeses. Our host was friendly and relaxed. What more could we ask for?

I stayed here for one night as I wanted to eat in the excellent Lebanese Restaurant nearby. The B and B is decorated with much more character than most B and B's in Ireland, very clean and comfortable, they do an excellent continental breakfast with a good selection of cheeses and good brown bread. The owner is friendly and helpful. It is in the middle of the most interesting part of old Athlone with good bars, antique shops and restaurants
