“Lovely hotel”
Reviewed 14 November 2008

Stayed here at this hotel midweek with my husband and family.
This hotel is lovely and cant understand how anyone could be disappointed.
Check in - Lovely friendly receptionist.
Bedroom - Very chic decor in rooms had an executive room with bath. Only complaint I would have is that the rooms are much much too warm and can understand people complaining about this. We could'nt turn off the radiator, Seriously needs to have air conditioning installed.
Bar - Bar is lovely and comfortable a bit small maybe. but comfy.
Found Service from Barman to be excellent.
Breakfast - Very nice breakfast.
Dinner - No faults here lovely and tasty.
Leisure Centre. This is truly the best part of the hotel. Fabulous swimming pool and jacuzzi pool the family loved it.
Area- Set in an industrial estate and a bit out of town for shopping .

All in all I would have no hesitation in staying here again for 79 euro for room for night great value.

Myself and a friend booked this for a weekend break away from the husbands and kids and we were very impressed with the style and design of the hotel, especially the rooms. The whole hotel was very clean which is a big plus for me and the gym/pool were great. Beds were extremely comfy. Minuses would be the location - an industrial estate with a view of a half built car showroom. The service in the restaurant was slow and unfriendly. The bar is far too small for the size of the hotel so that, even though it wasn't particularly busy, you had to wait to be served. But overall, good value for money.

This hotel is far from a 4 star, the service in the restaurant and bar is not good. The rooms are ok but noisy and hot. We made bookings in the spa and they doubled booked so we had to go home without our treatments. I would not recommend this hotel.

We stayed with a group of friends for a catch-up weekend as Athlone was mid-country and ideal for everyone to get to. The Hotel is a breath of fresh air - decor is really cool and 'hip', The accommodation is decorated in lovely rich shades and fabrics and very comfortable. We had adjoining rooms which was ideal. As it is a new Hotel, the staff are still getting to grips with things. Reception staff were excellant and very efficient however the restaurant staff were all over the place. They didnt seem to have any superior and hadnt a clue what they were doing. Athlone itself is a nice town to stroll around in during the day however I would not recommend it to go out in. We found it quite dangerous.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in September and we really enjoyed it.

The Athlone Springs is a lovely hotel. Needs one or two tweaks (as all hotels do) but all the right things are there. The style of the hotel made a refreshing change to the bulk standard decor offered by so many others, and it must be said that the staff were exceptional.

Lovely big car park, efficient and friendly check in (and check out) and the rooms and facilities did not disappoint at all.

As already suggested, maybe the bar could do with being a little bigger but it is comfortable and stylish. The bar menu was different to other places with a mix of bar food and “restaurant style” dishes, and the food really was delicious. Nice to see wine being served from a regular size bottle too!

The restaurant was very good although perhaps a little too big covering two floors? Having said that, the service was friendly, efficient and unhurried. The live music was nice a touch and at a volume which didn’t intrude at all. Breakfast was also served in here and a good selection was on offer both days. Having said that, I found the food to be cold on the first morning but perfect on the second. I can forgive them though given the choice available!

Upstairs, the bedrooms were spacious and well designed. The bed was so comfortable I slept well both nights which is unusual for me! Bathrooms were quite funky, although if you shower more than once a day, you are at risk of flooding your bathroom. What a shower though!

Aside from the hotel stay, I also organised a social event here on one of the nights and I must thank Chris (general manager), Caroline and Paula (events team) and all the staff for their enthusiasm and support in the run up to the event. All our guests had a great time and the evening went without a hitch. The buffet laid on was superb and went down a treat, as did the tea and coffee which we did not expect. You guys excelled - thank you.

The function room and business facilities are top notch and I would have no hesitation in using the venue for future social or business events. I didn’t have time to check out the leisure centre this time, but it looked fantastic!

All in all, a great stay.

  • Liked — Friendly, personal service. Everything really!
  • Disliked — Could do with being closer to town. Any chance of moving the hotel?!!!!

I have stayed here for five weeks over the past year and it is a very nice hotel. The rooms were always clean and tidy as was the leisure centre(which i made full use of). Each week i was here with a group of mature students and one thing that really annoyed me was one of the waitresses ( foreign girl) apologised to other guests because the only seat available in the restaurant was beside us which made us feel terrible. All the staff other than this girl were very pleasent . Other than this we got a great deal and the food was always very good. I hope to return here with my wife and children for a weekend in the near future. A little dissapointed that there has been no follow up with special offers since my last stay. Most other hotels will do this and i have returned on some occasions to hotels with good offers.

First impressions are really important and for me the decor of the hotel really impressed me, it's amazing. The foyer, the room, restaurant, pool and spa are all so beautifully decorated. The food was gorgeous and the staff were friendly and helpful. As part of our package we had complementary massages and it was wonderful. I had read some reviews of this hotel after I booked and read that it was in an industrial estate, and to be honest I was a bit worried, but I'm so glad we went. It is in a small industrial estate, but we were only about 7 minutes away from Athlone town in the car, but to be honest we didn't leave the hotel much as we made use of all the facilities there. We really will return for a break again. We enjoyed it and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
