“Home-y stay”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

Reena and Tom were gracious hosts for our one night in Athlone. Their home is "lived in" - a few finger prints on the doors - but clean where it's important. The bed was comfy - towels seen better days. We enjoyed our breakfast, and conversation with Tom.

The B&B was hard to find, but eventually we got there. We were welcomed by the owners, who looked very grubby and stained. They didn't look very interested. After showing us the room, we wanted to run away. The furniture looked allright and was nice, but the room was dusty, full of cobwebs and very sticky (just like the owners). We went in town for a dinner, which was nice. Breakfast was not that good; only the eggs were fresh ! the rest was prepared in the microwave and very dry. The male owner informed us very nicely about what to do in the area. After breakfast we got out of there as fast as we could. No returning back ! This B&B was a disappointment after staying in three great B&B's

I booked two nights in this B & B with my two cousins, as a base for looking for distant Irish relatives in the area. When we arrived, it didn't look like the picture on the Go Ireland website. As soon as we got through the door, it smelled musty. My bedroom has a dirty blind, cobwebs in the corner. In the morning a found a dirty sock down the side of the bed and a pair of soiled pants in the bedside cupboard. My cousins' room was grubby and it smelled musty. If we had not booked and paid a deposit, and because it was late, we would have walked out when we arrived. We left in the morning after the host (who was otherwise very knowledgable about the area) served us breakfast in grubby, food stained clothes.
The Go Ireland website said they accepted credit cards but the landlady would only accept cash.
This may have once been a nice B&B but not now and is definitely one to avoid.

We have just returned from Ireland and we stayed at the Reeside for 2 nights. We arrived at about 7pm and the oweners Tom and Rena made us feel very welcome and gave us a cup of tea. The rooms were very nice and clean. The breakfast in the morning consisted of sasuage, egg, tomato, bacon, bread, toast, jams and tea and coffee.
The property is along a quiet road off one of the main roads. This was not a problem as it was about 1/2 - 1 km away from the main road and we could not hear or see the main road. Further along the small lane is one of the larger lakes in Ireland, Ree. You can walk to it in only a couple of minutes from the property. There is plenty of parking at the property and a lovely large garden with outside seating and a lovely built stream and pond. Tom and Rena were very friendly and allowed us to look at their books, one of which Tom has written.

This was a wonderful place to stay. We got lost trying to find it in the dark and the owner drove out to meet us. When we got back to the B&B he insisted on serving us tea, orange juice and cookies. Rooms were a bit dated but clean. Wonderful people, and a great place to be our last B&B of our trip.!
