Had a really enjoyable evening in the Left Bank on a girls night out for two mothers who rarely get a chance to catch up. Neither of us had ever eaten out in Athlone so the research had been left up to me!! I was a little nervous having read some not so fabulous reviews on TripAdvisor but overall I really liked the look of The Left Bank. It didn't disappoint! The service was excellent and its really quite unusual to find an Early Bird on a Friday night!! We were pleasantly surprised with the variety and value - I had the warm prawn salad (with chorizo and baby potatoes) it was divine. Wine choices were also really good. There was a nice buzz and the decor is really nice. I would most definitely go back!!

The cuisine is delicate, meat very well cooked. Name of the plates are a bit glamorous but the cuisine is classical. Service perfect, fast and tactful. The decoration is a bit spontaneous/organised but nice (bobo in French).

Visited the Castle and needed a cool spot for lunch. We lucked out and walked into the Left Bank. They had a Great Steak sandwich special - the bread was delicious - soup excellent - great service - cool spot too. I was going to rate 4 stars - but really after reflecting - was a really nice lunch and deserving of 5 stars considering the value and service --- was a nice lunch.

This was a regular haunt of mine for lunch a few years ago, increasing prices and decreasing wages meant that I hadn't been back in ages, it has always been pretty good cooking, but not cheap.

I popped in with a friend for a cuppa and a piece of cake one midweek, mid-afternoon, recently. Tea and coffee were good, sadly the desserts were distinctly average, meringue 'roulade' was dry as dust with some over sweetened chocolate sauce, a little cream and some flaked almonds...the chocolate biscuit cake was also very average, the total was north of 15e for the two of us.

The place was very quiet, service was brisk if not overly warm or friendly.
