We returned to stay with Ann in currane lodge and really enjoyed our stay again. The views are so beautiful from the b&b and it's completely quiet except for the few sheep and cows . Ann's family are very friendly and helpful. We had a lovely family room with a great bathroom. It's only a short drive into Waterville which is handy. Internet is not the fastest if that's important but that's the only slight drawback we had. Breakfast is really good too, lots of choice .

This was our 4th B and B on our southwest Ireland trip. The location was out of town 3 KM overlooking an amazing lake. Our Hosts were very welcoming and helpful. If having a television is important for evening enterainment this location might not meet your needs. They only get the news channel if the TV worked. If Wifi is an important perk then this location might not meet your needs.Even going to the one area of the home we were directed to did not yield wifi. The breakfast in the morning was very tasty. My only suggestion (not criticism, would be to honestly state one channel tv and limited wifi so that if these are important to travelers they not be disappointed.

The currane lodge sits next to a pristine lake in the center of which is an island where you can just make out the ruins of a monastery. The owners are warm and welcoming and more than happy to help book a tour or find a nice walk. The currane lodge was a glimpse into a quiet life in the Irish countryside. Stay a few nights to wind down and relax in a lovely seaside town. A wonderful stop on a tour of the ring of Kerry.

This is not a negative review. I want to be very clear about that. I'm only writing this to re-set expectations for another traveller like me searching through the feedback before booking. I thought this was a fine stay, but it wasn't amazing. Why does that matter? Because I had read so many overly glowing reviews of Currane Lodge that I reworked our entire schedule so we could be there on our anniversary (this resulted in a ton of extra driving since I wanted our stay to be on that day). Every review (except one from a guy with an obvious bad attitude) painted such a fantastic picture that I fully expected to have the most amazing stay of our trip there. It was good. It may have even been great. But it wasn't exceptional.

Here are are a couple of points. We chose to have Ann cook our dinner for us, which cost us 25 Euro a piece. That's $67 dollars. It was the most expensive meal of our trip, but it wasn't the best (we dined at one of the restaurants at Ashford Castle which was totally amazing and cheaper). For that price I expect amazing.

Another downfall was the shower. It's a shower that shoots straight down in the bathroom with no curtain or tiling to contain the water from filling the room. I didn't have the pressure turned up all the way (which would have been totally cool with the amount of water coming out of there) and the water flooded around the toilet and soaked the whole floor. I was afraid it would seep out into the bedroom so I turned the water off while soaping up (brrr).

Is this a good place to stay? Yes. Beautiful location. Quiet and peaceful. Plus, you can reach many of the cool ruins in the morning before the tour busses arrive. But I want to offer a bit of reality about the stay for others who rely on the reviews to set their expectations. Good, maybe even great, but it's not schedule-your-whole-trip-around-this-place amazing.

This was our first trip to Ireland. In our B&B Ireland reservation, I mentioned we were celebrating my husband’s birthday. Our first stop was Currane Lodge. Owner Ann McCarthy greeted us like family with hot tea and fresh baked scones. We enjoyed them in her warm and welcoming dining area overlooking the beautiful view of Loch Curran. That evening, she served us a delicious homemade dinner of Irish Stew, brown bread and scones. She surprised us with a homemade birthday cake, which we shared with another guest staying there. It was lovely! Ann went above and beyond our expectations!

The room was well-kept, comfortable and warm which included an attached bathroom with powerful shower.

Each of the breakfasts we selected were hot and delicious.

Ann gave us wonderful information about the area.

Currane Lodge is the perfect place to enjoy Loch Curran, visit Church Island, have dinner and drinks at a 4 star restaurant in Waterville, see the Ring of Kerry, visit Skellig Michael, Valentia Island or many other attractions in the area.

We look forward to our next stay at Currane Lodge and highly recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: We highly recommend everything in Currane Lodge!

Myself and my girlfriend where very happy with our stay. We where travelling around kerry decided to spend a night in waterville. All the locals are very friendly. The owner of the b&b Ann was a really nice woman and it was nice to chat with her young boys aswell. The breakfast was very nice and the room was very comfortable. The shower was hot and powerful. The view from the b&b is amazing and for that alone I would recommend people to stay there. If in waterville again I will stay with Ann.
