I recently stayed at this B&B with my sister. Firstly, the staff, very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect and the free parking an added bonus. Fantastic. The building itself looks great.
Breakfast was well cooked and presented, I was surprised that there was no soda bread on your menu, especially as you sold Guinness bread. The dining room decor is well presented and pleasant, the art work on the wall charming.
Our bedroom, I can see that it must have been updated recently by the curtains etc. In comparison to your dining room I have to be honest, it fell short and we were disappointed. The room has great proportions and for not much investment could look fantastic. The paint work in the room is very badly done, if you look up at the ceiling you will see a whole square in the centre of the ceiling has not been painted and is yellow. The window paintwork is also poor, but the shutters are fantastic and could be a real feature of the room. The curtains looked odd at half mast. The wardrobe was painted very badly and the miss matched and wire hangers looked poor, plus there were a lack of skirt hangers too. The crooked no smoking sign stapled onto the wardrobe door, looked awful. The TV arm with the chain and lock hanging off it, was it for the TV? It was also not very clean. . The TV itself was placed on the unit in the room, it took up over half the available space to actually put personal items on to. Given that there was no other storage in the room or bathroom this was inconvenient. The unit itself is basic and looks very poor. Ideally a drawer unit would be much more useful. In addition the hairdryer in the room did not work, alas we only found this out after we had washed our hair. Fortunately we heard a member of staff come up and she supplied us with another one. The beds were very comfortable and the covers and sheets clean and in good condition. However, the valance on both beds were not clean, lots of black marks, which are very obvious on a white background. The bedside cabinet had a handle missing and again was very basic looking. The lamp, nice shade but the lamp itself was very small and again looked out of place, as did the shade on the main light in the room.. The carpet was clean and in good condition. It was useful to have a suitcase rack. We also required the iron and board, this was unavailable for some time due to the fact that it was in another guests room. A real bonus would be to have one in the room. The kettle had water sitting in it, which is never pleasant as you never know how long it has been there for. Plenty supply of tea and coffee. There is a chair in the bedroom, the seat is falling apart.
The bathroom, the use of a low voltage light in there made the room extremely dark until it reached its full light. I also thought that these types of bulbs and lighting were generally not used in a bathroom environment. The shower was missing a screw on the top corner which made opening and closing the unit difficult. The shower head is covered in paint and the shower itself is not particularly clean. Although once we got the hang of how the unit worked the water pressure was good, though the heat varied from scalding to cold on same setting. The towels supplied were adequate and we were offered to have them changed daily, we said we did not require this but were grateful for the attention. However, when the towels were changed they were replaced with two with very frayed edges and in poor condition. The toilet seat was loose and split, which made for very careful positioning! It is difficult to put anything down in the bathroom there is no shelf and one has to balance things on the sink. The toothbrush holder does not inspire one to use it. The toiletries were a nice touch and were generally not expected so thank you. There is no hook on the back of the door which means you end up putting your clothes on the floor, there is screw marks on the door so I presume there was once a hook there. Again, the bathroom is a really good size, a good scrub and paint removal, with some running repairs would not go amiss. Lastly, I am not sure if there is a problem with the sewers, as a couple of days there was a very unpleasant smell which filled the whole of the upstairs. Equally, it could have been another guest, if this is the case better ventilation is a must.
I also contacted the owner and raised the above, three weeks later I am yet to receive a reply.
