Arrived on Friday and whilst the place was busy with a wedding the Reception was friendly and welcoming. We were given our room in a quiet space because we were not attending the wedding. Got a fab room with a great bath, the bar was warm and welcoming and neither Eilis or Liam could do enough to ensue our comfort. From Laura on the Reception Desk to Joyce who seemed to be everywhere our experience was just wonderful. Would we stay again YES YES AND YES again, only fault with the weekend was the weather but sure our hosts had no control over that. If you want a hotel with honest to God friendly staff who will make you welcome in an old style country house then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 20 on the first night and it had everything we could possibly require. We moved to...

I have just returned from a training weekend that was held in the Kilcoran Lodge Hotel. From the minute I pushed in the front door I felt at home. There was a warm stove burning brightly to banish the cold damp evening outside. The lady on Reception set the friendly tone of the hotel. My single room was clean and comfortable with all the extras you can expect to enjoy your stay including WiFi. The food throughout was beautifully presented fresh and plenty of it.The bar has a lovely warm turf fire with both locals and those of us on the course enjoying the craic and banter. To a fault all staff were courteous and helpful. I made use of the leisure facilities also. The pool. Is small but well maintained as is the sauna steam room and Jacuzzi .i didn't use the gym but it seemed well equipped. The scenery is magnificent, the Comeragh mountains provide lovely views from both the bar and restaurant .All in all a lovely weekend. I would definitely reccomend this hotel.

Room Tip: I had a single room number 8 .it was away from the reception I had no complaints about noise.

We spent a weekend in Kilcoran Lodge to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of our parents who were married in the hotel also. Our party ranged in age from the 70s to 11 months and the hotel catered for all equally well. Despite the fact that the new management team Eilish and Liam were only in place with a few days and that the day that our party arrived was their first day open for business the weekend worked out as a great success. Every need was met without an issue and nothing was too much hassle to deal with. The hotel is quaint with a great leisure centre. The bar is homely with a big open fire. The hotel happily accommodated mass to be said in the their ball room and dinner followed for a party of 75 people. The service and dinner was great and could not be faulted. Laura on reception was so helpful and when our photographer cancelled last minutes was able to arrange another local photographer who did a brilliant Job. The weekend went from strength to strength and I would have no hesitation in staying in Kilrocan Lodge again and im sure that Eilish, Liam and their Staff will bring the hotel from strength to strength. So Glad we choose here to celebrate with our parents, family and friends.

Had the dreadful experience of having to use this hotel in the recent past. I use the term hotel very loosely as the only good experience of the weekend was the Receptionist as she was the only person that seemed to understand or comprehend the term 'Customer Care'. She went out of her way to try to assist a party of 6 who had booked in for the weekend. we were on a training course based appox 15km from there. The room was not very clean and the lighting was appalling; also there was half used bottles of toilet products from the previous customer. We had on booking asked about the availability of WiIFI and was told it was available what was not mentioned that it was only in the reception area and not in our rooms.
it took over an hour to get 4 starters out on the first night to the four of us in the Dining Room; we were the only people to be there. It then took anywhere between three quarters of an hour to one hour between courses. Due to this delay we pre ordered our breakfasts for the following morning as we had to be at our course by 9am. One of arrived down only to find that there was no staff were in on duty yet even though we explained our situation the night before. Well it just went downhill from there as when we got back there was a wedding party. We were asked would we mind if we left ordering an evening meal by an hour as they had just sat down. We agreed to this and in fact waited over 2 and a half hours. We went to the bar to order and it took over an hour for a simple toasted sandwich to arrive.
At this point I sought to speak to the Manager/Owner; who could or would not understand any comments made to him he only wanted names of people to blame. I explained I had worked in the arena of 'Customer Service' for years and if I had his attitude my business would not have lasted. I explained as the manager it was his duty to delegate and ensure all his customers were looked after and not to offer excuses as he had. I pointed out about the delays and the tableware & cutlery being filthy and even showed him the photos I had taken. Again his excuse was they were busy with the wedding, to this I said would I have to book a weeding before I could have any kind of service.
I would never recommend this place to anyone as I do not dislike anyone that much to inflict the manager there on them.. As stated the only good person there was the receptionist.

Room Tip: AVOID at all cost

Attended a wedding here. Hard to know where to start. From the get go it went downhill.
While in the reception area, very little seating & freezing cold!
In the bar area, fire lit, very little seating here also.
When we finally got into function room, again freezing cold! Had to wear coat during dinner! Could not see top table, too many tables crammed in. Long tables pushed against the wall. If one person needed to leave the table everybody had to get up & move to let them out.
Very poor sound system! Not enough staff to serve the number of guests attending the wedding!
Paper napkins, wine glasses that may have been fashionable twenty years ago! All in all would never return here!

What a fantastic day we had on Dec 8th when our whole family got together to celebrate my mothers 87th birthday , We were a group of 32 and had the room behind the bar to ourselves. We had a very mixed age group including teenagers , the youngest was 4 years old. The family were coming from all parts of Ireland and met in the bar where there was a lovely atmosphere and a fire burning. We moved into the dining room where everything was very well laid out and the room nicely decorated and had lunch. The food and service were excellent and we thank Connie and his staff for looking after us so well. We hope to be back next year to celebrate her 88th.

Room Tip: As none of us stayed the night I cannot comment here , everyone had to return to there homes as we h...

Driving towards Cahir I told my husband that my day would be made if we could just find a nice, country house style place to stay for the night and about five minutes later we saw the sign advertising Kilcoran Lodge. How good is that? Very good as it turned out.
We were greeted by a friendly lady at the desk and advised that there would be a room available. As it happened we were the only guests that night so we literally had the run of the house. Due to a slight misunderstanding we realised that we'd have to drive into the town for our evening meal and asked the friendly gentleman nearby if he could recommend a place to us. Obviously we looked a bit tired (and less than keen to head out again) so without hesitation he offered to cook us a meal - as in cook it himself. What service ! Now of course we understand that this very pleasant gentleman, Connie Herbert, is the owner of the hotel but even so, cooking up a meal for two guests arriving late in the day, at the far end of the season, is pretty remarkable - and it was a great meal too. Connie sat with us in the bar and we were fascinated to hear much of the history of this lovely old building. Despite the long running financial woes experienced in Ireland (and indeed around the world) Connie has a very optimistic, get up and go attitude and I'm sure that his plans, many of which are already underway, will only see the Lodge go from strength to strength. As always, before writing a review, I read each entry for this place and was amazed to read some of the more critical comments. I'm unsure of just what people are looking for if they choose to stay in a place like this and then find things not to their liking. Personally, we will always opt for the unusual, the quirky, the faded charm, country house history and personality filled establishments which far outweigh the soulless chain style hotels or less than personal guest houses that are on offer in so many countries. Breakfast the following day (not cooked by Connie this time) was delicious, with lovely views from the dining room, overlooking the mountains. Our room, chosen by Connie so that we could enjoy those views from the second floor, was quite spacious, with a modern bathroom which included a good, strong shower and a full size bath both of which were appreciated. Given that we were the only guests that evening I hadn't anticipated that the heaters would be working but Connie assured us that he would sort that matter and so he did. We were warm, comfortable and filled with good food (as well as a few glasses of wine) and slept very well indeed. We wish Connie and his staff all the very best, and if we're fortunate enough to travel to Ireland again, we'll most certainly make time to stay at this interesting, comfortable and well run house.
