“Cozy place to walk around”

Nice walk from Cahir castle to Swiss Cottage - about 2 KM maybe more - walk along the river, with beautiful view. Do it, nice, calm, fresh air, sound of river and birds - amazing

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 7 June 2014

Visit this place is you are in Cahir region. There are four rooms. They have been restored very well. Surrounding is very beautiful. They do have conducted tour. It will not take very long to see.

“Prime Real estate!”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

This cottage was absolutely amazing! It is so nicely restored. Be sure to attend on the first Wednesday of the month, it's FREE on those days!
The tour guide was very kind and enthusiastic; she also had great knowledge about the house and it's history.
Be aware, that you CAN drive to this cottage, walking is possible, but there is a road and parking lot that lead right up to the site.

“A Hidden Jewel”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

Recommend walking here along a beautiful, well-marked path through country lands from Cahir Castle. The path winds along the river and a golf course before crossing a small bridge to the cottage itself. About a mile. A tunnel in the hillside allows access to the cottage grounds on a small bluff overlooking the river valley. The cottage is an elaborate attempt to create a land of make believe for the royal owners of Cahir Castle. The outside is more interesting than the interior, which does have some wonderful period pieces and decorations. But the thatched roof, 1,000 year-old yew tree, verdant grounds, iron fence, and covered veranda steal the show.

“Fascinating but small”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

The guided tour is really a must as it gives the story of the building and provides access to the rooms. There are only four rooms and the immediate grounds are limited. It is worth a visit if you are in Cahir for the castle etc, but I would not recommend a special visit.

The story of the cottage is interesting but it would be useful if there was more there. A tea-room would make a visit more attractive.

NOTE: when you leave the main road, keep going along the drive until you find a marked car park. There is a large area where cars are often parked on the left-hand side ... ignore this and keep going. The entrance to the reception area is over a bridge and through a short/low tunnel.
