“poor plumbing at the Royal Hotel”
Reviewed 25 June 2014

I confirm that bad reviews I had seen were true. The hotel is run down in a run down area. The manager promised that the new management has started on an extensive improvement programme but I would not recommend this hotel at all in the immediate future.
The plumbing for example was so bad that it was laughable. The heating was on although it was 20C plus outside and some people could not turn the radiators off. One day we had hot water coming out of both the hot and cold taps. Sometimes we had to shower quickly before the water went too cool and another time it was too hot to stand under.

Stayed here with my girlfriend for a night recently. No complaints at all. HUGE room, power shower, friendly and attentive staff and comfortable bed. The leisure centre is lovely and we had great fun in the games room. The hotel could do with some updating and the lift was out of order but these are minor issues. And for the price I was very impressed. Would stay again no problem.

Me and my family stayed here for one night at the cost of 109 euro - average price for a really nice hotel in Eire, it was far from value for money!

Let me list the issues with this hotel;

Not clean at all.
Run down in every aspect.
tiles broken in the bathroom.
Small in space throughout .
Cold water actually hot therefore no cold water at all.
Heating on throughout night, no controls for heating.
Windows filthy - bird droppings all over the outside of the windows!
Bathroom old and cruddy.
Stains on the bedroom walls.

This is just a few of the issues! If you are looking to book a hotel in Bray, don't book this one. There are loads of other hotels that look a lot better and I've even heard better reports from the B&Bs on the promenade.

Beautiful place with the promenade being fantasic for food and kids - I would go back but not to the 'faulty towers' Royal hotel!

the hotel was in a great location close to the main shopping areas and not far from the sea front ,the hotel itself was great the rooms were spacious clean and the beds were very comfy, the food was spot on there were six of us in our party of various ages and we all agree it was the best place to stay ,the hotel staff were always very polite and helpful there was entertainment on most nights witch was good.after a night out in bray arriving back at the hotel we had a great laugh with the bar staff who were very friendly and too be honest they made our holiday they were warren and Siobhan and the best were the night manager ashraff and night porter martin who looked after our every need when drinking and partying late into the night all I can say is my daughter and the rest of us thouroughly enjoyed her 21st at the royal hotel in bray.

Dining room and reception alright for decor, good staff in dining room and reception. Lift out of order for three days out of five and we were on third floor, the stairs were like a maze (Worse than Faulty Towers). Room had no shampoo, shower gel, shower cap or hair drier, notice in bathroom said to obtain hot water let the tap run, (this was over five minutes)
Out of our coach party we were lucky because we did not have to ask to change our room, some of the others had bad plumbing, mould, faulty lock on main door etc. The hotel needs a major update.

I visited the hotel on the 17th of June for a one night stay. The hotel is seriously outdated and in need of being renovated. Our room was unclean and cramped with stains on the walls. The bed was also screeching. The corridors around the hotel are far from clean. The bathroom in need of serious renovation. The staff were ok. The restaurant below all expectations, dirty glasses and cuttlery. Poor food quality. In one word OUTDATED, Would not recommend it

Myself and the boyfriend stayed here on June 14th and stayed the one night. The room was supposedly a double but was very small. Although sufficient, it was a well over priced rate at €79 with no breakfast included and the room temperature was way too hot throughout the night, making it impossible to sleep.
The service in reception was O.K however when I rang room service for a bucket of ice I was firstly told that it would incur a charge of €5 to our room and then it was never delivered.

If I was to have booked this hotel for a long weekend getaway I would have been severely disappointed. Thankfully we only stayed the one night.
