“Excellent Castle Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 November 2011

This castle is one of the nicest places to stay. The staff was very courteous, professional and helpful. They just took our bags from the car without a thought, since it was raining and brought it into the hotel. The concierge had two great ideas. One was to take the train into Dublin, the other was a restaurant choice in Danby, near the train station. Both worked out very well. Train was inexpensive and ran frequently. Did not have to worry about parking. The restaurant was a seafood place with a good selection of very fresh fish and catches of the day.

The hotel was far better than expected. The rooms were immaculate, freshly decorated/renovated. Bed was comfortable and modern, as was the bathroom. The restaurant served a good late night snack. The room over looked the bay in the distance, but since it was raining heavily, we did not get to see much.

Room Tip: Come very early and have them hold your bags until your room is ready. Ask for the best one availab...

Dear Chazcat 99

We were delighted to read that you enjoyed your stay with us, and thank you for your comments. The train (Dart) service from Dalkey village is the best way to travel into the City as it only takes about 25 minutes to get into Dublin and you can enjoy a pleasant journey taking in our the lovely coastline scenery. Hopefully the next time you visit us you will have better weather.
Kind regards

I love this hotel. I've used it a number of times over the last few years and I always enjoy going back. Yes, in places the decor looks a bit tired and in need of a bit of TLC but everything else about the hotel makes up for that. It does feel a bit like the land that time forgot in comparison to Holiday Inn - but this is not a boring, plastic, 10-a-penny hotel. The staff are one of its strengths - helpful, welcoming and friendly. It has a good Bistro/restaurant downstairs and at the weekends an excellent a la carte restaurant as well. Breakfast is excellent. The rooms are a good size and those on the front of the hotel have a lovely view over the garden and down to Dublin Bay. The position is great - a short walk into Dalkey - loads of really good restaurants. Not far from the DART station - trains to Dublin or Bray. Close to Killiney Hill. Not always the cheapest hotel around but the do have special deals - and most importantly - it never disappoints.

Room Tip: Front of hotel is best.

This was the last castle hotel of the 4 included in our trip's package. We were checked-in by the very pleasant reception staff. I have to give credit to the young lady who was always there during our 2 nights stay to answer our questions and assist us in any way, but her Irish name escapes me. You'll know who she is because she's always there and pleasantly helpful! She spent a lot of time with us telling us about some options of things to do in Dublin and around the castle grounds. She encouraged us to take the hike near the castle and we did that on our last morning and we were so glad that we did. It is a beautiful hike by the sea. Make time for it if you can. In addition, we were a honeymoon couple and we really appreciated the additional touches that she arranged to help us enjoy our stay. Our room was very spacious and we did have a distant view of the sea through one window. Our bathroom was great with a big tub and the best separate shower we had all trip! Great water pressure and hot! Our bed was also the most comfortable we had all trip. We slept really well with no distractions, but I did find that the room didn't get as warm as I would have liked. We stayed in the actual castle part of the hotel, but this castle has been basically turned into a hotel and not many of the castle like features you would expect remain. That's not necessarily a problem for me, but in comparison to the other castle hotels, this one doesn't quite hold up as a castle. Nonetheless, it is a beautiful hotel. The lobby area has rich colors and is a lovely space. I appreciated the free use of the business center to finally have access to the internet. Our breakfast selection was great with both hot and cold options available. I wish we had time to enjoy the fitness room and pool, but since this was the end of our trip, we had too many things to do in Dublin yet. From what I saw, the facilities look great. Although this hotel isn't located in downtown Dublin, I really enjoyed staying in Killiney. It's a beautiful area. Getting into Dublin wasn't a problem. We had a car and drove to the train station at Cherrywood and took the train from there into the city. This was convenient and easy for us to do and if you have a car and need to get into the city from the hotel, I highly recommend this option.

We stayed at this hotel for one night over the halloween break and as it was a special occasion I did ask for a nice room but what a surprise we got when we saw our room we were given the suite which was just huge and fantastic. We ate in pj's restauant and the food was superb. So overall our stay was just perfect and even though it was only for one night we felt as we had been away for the whole weekend. Will stay in this hotel again as the whole experience was really great. Staff also very friendly and helpful.

I stayed for a second time in the Fitzpatrick, visiting a friend in Killiney. The Hotel was already a little tired a few years ago, but with no changes since then, the situation didn’t really improve. The rooms, at least ours, was very old and musty. The wall paper was rolling of the wall, rather strange for a 4* Hotel. The bathroom, even cleaned up rather good, was gruppy as the bathroom furniture was old and tired. In the Lobby, you still have this strange smell from old carpets, and the furniture is very used. As well a little strange, when looking into the pool area, you spot people still using those old swimming caps, the last time I saw this somewhere else in Europa was end of the 70s, I guess.
Service in general is very nice, they seem to make the best out of this old house, and the bed was comfortable and clean.
I don’t know if they start to renovate their guest rooms, but if not, they deserve at most 3*, and the price they charge for this quality is rather high. There are better deals in the Dublin region !

Dear Michael
I was sorry to read that the Castle did not live up to your expectations. Indeed we have renovated a number of our bedrooms to date, and we hope to complete refurbishment of a further 20 bedrooms over the coming months. I must apologise that you were allocated a room that is clearly in need of refurbishment. For hygiene reasons we do ask that all guests using our swimming pool wear a swimhat.
Thank you for taking the time to review the Castle and I was glad to read that you were happy with our service

My husband and I recently stayed at the Fitzpatrick Castle hotel in Dublin. We were very impressed with reception. We spent a great deal of time when we checked in asking about area attractions, running and hiking paths,DART train schedules etc. The receptionist gave us maps, sketched out routes for us and was extremely helpful. Our room was very large, clean and modern but the view disappointing, looking out on a roof and other rooms. Nonetheless, we were very pleased with the accomodations with a large nice bathroom. The common areas of the hotel are impressive. The gym has many treadmills, weight area, very helpful staff.

This hotel is a 15 minute walk to the DART and the train gets you to Dublin in another 15 minutes. The DART trip was along the coast and the views of the bay are beautiful.Downtown Dalkey is lovely and has many places to eat.

Nice hotel, good location with breathtaking views of the sea,bay and Dublin on the walk down the hill to the town center. Fine if you don't mind having to take the train to the actual city.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the sea. You may get lucky.

Dear Angie

Thank you for your wonderful comments about your stay with us. We are pleased you were well looked after and that you enjoyed your stay with us. Indeed the train journey into Dublin City is a great way to see the coastline of Dublin and as it only takes 25 minutes it certainly takes the stress out of driving yourself.
Should you be visiting Dublin again please let us know as we would love to upgrade you to a Seaview room.

Arrived tried and hungry after a rather rough crossing of the Irish Sea.Therefore nice to get into our room and find it ideal as a Family room was well proportions with two double beds.Bathroom spotless with plenty of towels and toiletaries.Evening meal in the dungeon was very good with excellent service.Would certainly stay again.
