Upon arriving, the hotel offers a great grandeur of an old castle. The 4 star ranking does the rest. Ok? Think again. No minibar, no airco in the room, no flatscreens and long waiting for checking do not really qualify for 4 star.
On the ither hand, atmosphere is quite relaxed and the people are friendly. But tah again, everybody is friendly in Ireland.

The Fitzpatrick Castle is listed as a four star hotel, and AA needs to reevaluate. Things are getting threadbare. Wallpaper is coming off walls in places. Our room was spacious with two large double beds, but the television was right out of the 80's with a 19" screen and blurry picture. Our room looked into a courtyard with a view that resembles the inside of a cell block. After a long series of flights from NC to Dublin, we got in before check-in time. They told us to get a cup of coffee and that they would get us in as soon as something became available. After an hour and a half and watching three other couples check in early, I asked what became of a room for us. "Oh, here's one, " we were told. Not a happy start to our vacation.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view but not the dismal courtyard.

Dear Jsteveb,

Thank you for bringing these issues to my attention.

I apologise for the delay during check in and that it was not handled more expediently we do make every effort to accommodate early arrivals however this time of year is particularly difficult due to business levels.

I must apologise for your disappointment with the room you were allocated. As you may have noticed in previous reviews we are coming to the last phase of our refurbishment programme.

I would be happy to discuss this further with you and investigate the issue if you could email me directly on mark.sl@fitzpatricks.com.

Kind Regards

Excellent Breakfasts - friendly helpful staff - comfortable bed.
Pool looked good but did not try.
Can't comment on the evening meals as we were out and about.
It is a fair walk to the train (DART) station - uphill on the way back.
Reasonable deal for the four nights.

Room Tip: Extra for the sea view and balcony seems worth while - sea view is to the right from the balcony.

My colleague and I spent one night in the Fitzpatrick. It was Mt first time to Ireland and this is a favorite lf his. Very attractive entrance to the grounds. Ample parking and was welcomed when we arrived. Check in was fast and the staff was very nice, helpful, and ready to provide any assistance needed. Room was well appointed and plenty of room. Storage limited for both hang up in closet and fold clothes in drawers. Bathroom well appointed with ample amenities. On third floor on front of hotel. Nice view of bay to the right. Nice balcony though didn't lock while there was a locking mechanism on the door. Felt safe nonetheless. WiFi suitable. Breakfast was very good with plenty of choices. We walked to dinner at Guinea Pig. Short pleasant stroll through residential area. Overall very satisfied with our stay.

Seemed like a "wannabe" castle. Carpet is faded, Paint & wall paper peeling. Decor is dated. Rooms were slightly above average. No hair conditioner, lousy shampoo that doesn't foam up. Staff was friendly and they exchange Euros right at the front desk. They have a dog park with ancient ruins right up the street for outdoor exploring, There's a tea/coffee cafe in a 2 minute walk and town is about a 10 - 12 minute walk down a hill and the same walk back up the hill, Great exercise for all of us. The town was real small but had everything you needed. Eat at Queens if you can because this was our best meal the whole stay.
They make you purchase and wear caps in the pool. AND, they gave my daughter who was a mature, respectable 14 year old a hard time without swimming with an adult & ultimately made her leave. I tried to get coffee from lobby and he sent me to the restaurant, who sent me to the bar who was no where to be found.I tried to order cereal & it was a huge ordeal. You had to order the breakfast buffet or the hispanic waitress couldn't comprehend or speak english well. THANK GOD for that coffee shop around the corner. There is public transportation a few minute drive down the hill and you can take it to the city. If you want to stay in a real castle, take a trip to Kilronan Castle. Have no desire to go back.

Dear ILuvVacationing,

Thank you for your review.

I must apologise for the issue your daughter experienced in the fitness centre and I will be speaking to our Fitness Centre manager to ensure this does not reoccur.

I would like to clarify a few points you raised.

The Castle was built in 1741. There have been extensions down to the left of the Castle in recent years but the original Entrance, Reception, Lobby and 8 Castle suites all date back to 1741.

Unfortunately swimming hats are a requirement in most pools in the country due to health and cleanliness issues.

I apologise for the issues you experienced during your stay and hopefully we will get a chance to restore your faith in us.

Kind Regards
