Stayed here for a couple of nights during our tour of Ireland. It was absolutely wonderful - very clean, functional, quiet and really lovely staff. The food in the restaurant was amazing - I've never eaten half a cow in a steak and Guinness pie before - and was absolutely gorgeous steak it was too. Breakfast was freshly cooked to order, with various options and with a lovely selection of fruit/pastries etc to help yourself to. This is a lovely hotel and would definitely stay again if I was in need of a bed while in the area.

Just back from a weekend break in Ballyvaughan, fabulous stay. The hotel was homely, friendly, comfy and quaint. The staff are great, so friendly and helpful. We booked a family room, which was perfect, a double and two single beds with a very clean bathroom. The breakfast too was fantastic, a buffet plus a hot breakfast menu which included smoked salmon and scrambled eggs & a veggie choice. Very good! We will return to Ballyvaughan definately!

My husband and I stayed in Hylands recently for a weekend are were extremely impressed. The recent change in ownership is what encouraged us to try Hylands again after our previous bad experience two years previous.

The food was simply amazing & the waiting staff were more than happy to tell us about their new, very talented chefs Gordy & Lenny. Everything about the food was perfect, we really regretted not eating in the hotel the first night of our stay. The salmon was fabulous, the best I've had in years. The only down point is that the menu is a little bit pricey, although it is completely worth it.

We seemed to be in Ballyvaughan in what was their busiest weekend and we were looked after very well by a young waiter called Dermot. The whole restaurant was very busy and so was he but he still managed to take great care of my husband and I and was extremely polite in doing so. We actually had a drink with him after his shift was done.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay with great food, great staff & a great room. Would definitely recommend it as we will surely be returning soon for another nice break.

We needed a good rest at this point of our trip and the hotel did that just fine. Bar food was expensive but people watching was good as the man who apparently caught our mussels was VERY drunk at the bar. Overall, a good night's sleep.

Room Tip: Eat some where else.

Stayed here for two nights as we were traveling up the west coast and it was definitely my favorite hotel we stayed at. It was recently put under new ownership or management, I can't remember which one. It is very cozy and all the people there are extremely friendly.

Make sure you have at least one meal there! The food was absolutely incredible. I got the Salmon over mashed potatoes and it was like nothing I've ever had before. Compliments to the chef and kitchen staff.

I would absolutely recommend this hotel if you are traveling through Ballyvaughan.

Four of us landed at the Hylands on a bike tour of Clare and the Burren. The hotel was lovely and quaint and a nice change from the B&Bs where we had been staying previously. I was quite taken with the daily turf fire in the cozy lounge. My room on the top floor was large and clean. The generous-sized bathroom would have been perfect if it had had brighter lighting. A really delightful surprise, though, was the quality of the food at dinner. Several of us had salmon and it was delicious and prepared with flair and creativity. The more traditional Guinness pie was also excellent. I learned that the hotel had recently changed hands; Gordy, the chef, was also new. I wished we'd been able to sample more of his delicious dishes but we didn't stay long enough!

This well established small hotel has new owners who provide an excellent personal stay. The room, especially the bathroom, were spacious and well decorated. The breakfasts were very good and it was lovely relaxing in front of the fire in reception in the evenings. Free wifi also. An excellent base for exploring the Burren.
