“Well located and comfortable base for Burren touring”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

We enjoyed another return two-night visit to Hyland's, a long-established hotel well located in the centre of Ballyvaughan and a good base for touring the northern Burren.

Room size varies. This time, we had a large one in the 'new' wing. Furniture and toiletries were adequate if unexciting. Only a few TV channels were available.

The breakfast buffet was rather basic and the room rather dark but the cooked-to-order hot food was excellent and substantial. Food service ends surprisingly early in the evening but there are nearby alternatives. The bar area seemed quieter than we remembered from previous visits and no longer as 'atmospheric'.

WiFi is free but it didn’t reach all rooms, including ours. There is free - unsecured - car parking close by. All the staff we met were helpful and pleasant.

We rate Hyland's three star plus and see it as the best choice in the area for the average traveller (Gregan's Castle is a luxury resort) - but it's a base, not a destination.

we stayed one night here in a very spacious family room. staff are all very friendly and helpful, they have a great knowledge of the area. breakfast was delicious, we helped ourselves to cereal, juices, croissants then had a great selection of cooked breakfasts.
our only complaint was that there was a disco in the premises next door, directly under our room so it was very noisy into the early hours of the morning.
i would certainly recommend this hotel and we will return there.

If you are planning a walking holiday or a visit to the Burren, then this is the perfect location. The staff were really friendly and helpful, having a great knowledge of the area they work in. The food was fabulous. All 20 of us booked in for dinner on our first night. It was promptly served and tasted really good. The bar area was spacious and well laid-out. There was a cosy lobby near reception, and another on the first floor. Our room was bright and spacious and the bed very comfortable. I would return just for the shower alone! Great value for money. We will be back.
Forgot to mention wi-fi. Available free of charge on ground floor.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the car park are very quiet. Some have floor to ceiling windows which we loved.

We spent one night at Hylands Burren Hotel. Hotel was clean and room was comfortable and value for money except the hot water ran out before we were able to have our morning shower. We were able to return to our room after breakfast when the hot water was restored. Traditional breakfast was included, although we had a bit of a wait because of a large college/school group who were also staying at the hotel (I think this was also the reason for the lack of hot water problem). The staff were polite and helpful.

While touring around Galway and Clare we stayed for two nights in Hyland's. It was a very pleasant experience. It is a three star unpretentious property with high standards. The room was a good size and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom was quite large with shower stall rather than a bath/shower. We had a difficulty with the shower on arrival, which they went to great lengths to repair - the mark of a good business! Breakfast was quite good and the atmosphere in the bar was fun. Dinner is served in the bar and because we had arranged to meet up with friends, we didn't eat there. The menu looked very inviting and the customers seemed more that happy with the fare. The staff were very friendly and helpful and extremely hard-working. The manager was a gentleman from Portugal who had found his way to Ballyvaughan, he was really on top of things, and could not do enough for his guests. We will return without doubt.
