Not your typical Irish castle, but a cross between a small castle and a New England country inn. (Sorry, teens, no internet and no television, so bring your books, a deck of cards or a game of chess and your cameras!)
Beautifully appointed inside and out, magnficent gardens, views of rolling farmlands and the Burren, minutes from the caves and the profumerie. This was one of the highlights of our trip, with excellent staff, warm and inviting rooms, all first class accomodations with wonderful views. A fine collection of art and books for your perusal and an extraordinary chef in the kitchen. Wonderful selection of wines and champagnes to accompany your sublime meals. ~First class cuisine in a first class hotel in a magical setting.
We will be back!

My husband and I have just returned from a trip to Ireland. The main reason for our trip was business but as a treat and a very late birthday surprise he booked our last nights at this lovely hotel. We have stayed all over Ireland in the past but never in the burren and never at Gregans. Our loss! In the last few years we have been all over Ireland for business and pleasure and have been increasingly dissapointed by the standards of accomodation on offer. Not here. From our arrival into a gorgeous candlelit hall with a blazing fire(on a summer evening too) to our departure 3 days later it was magical. My husband thinks I am a clean freak and Gregans was a joy. From fabulous bed linen and the largest towels I have seen in a hotel yet, lots of lovely toiletries and a really stylish room, to some of the best food I have eaten in Ireland; we were truely spoiled. The staff and owners here are very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A perfect mix of competence and friendliness which is hard to find. My husband stumbled across this hotel by accident online and I have to say, we are sorry we didn't find it earlier. AND, it only took us a bit over an hour to get to the airport in Shannon. We will definitely return.

Stayed two nights Sept. ' 05. Had stayed before and it doesn't disappoint. View onto Galway Bay and the Burren most pleasing. Staff friendly and responsive. Nice bar and dining is superb. Room comfortable and well-appointed.

We have just returned from a very memorable trip to Ireland and Gregans was the highlight. Some of the other places were kind of stuffy but Gregans owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. They organised a hiking tour with entertaining local guide Sean and a boat trip under The Cliffs of Moher which were both amazing. Our room was very comfortable and elegant with a king bed and views over Galway Bay and The Burren hills. In the evening there was a very warm ambience with candles lighting everywhere and peat fires burning in the bar, lobby and lounge (even in August !). A harp was playing in the restaurant during dinner. The owners are understandably proud of the new chef (we ate dinner each night) as the food was better than we have found in many similarly priced Manhattan restaurants. Most of the food is sourced locally around The Burren area. There is no formal dress code. This hotel is a place to relax. It is romantic and we believe great value. It is also very convenient for Shannon and on the road back to the airport we were already planning our next visit to this beautiful country.

We just returned from 10 days in Ireland - and we stayed at 5 different locations. Fortunately we only were scheduled for one night at this place. Although the rooms were very nice (we did pay for the superior rooms) and the breakfast was good, we stayed at 4 other B&Bs that were just as nice and 1/3 the cost. We hoped this would feel more like a castle - but it was just a very expensive small hotel. And I would agree with the other Pennsylvania writer - we felt the staff was stuffy - not homey at all like other B&Bs. I wouldn't go back - there are way too many options in Ireland that are just as nice and a lot cheaper.

If you are looking for comfort, good food, and location, then this may be an optimal place in the Burren. It is close enough to the coast, hiking areas, and nearby Doolin. Dinners and breakfasts are excellent. After having stayed in other high-end Irish hotels, however, this was our least favorite. The reception was stiff and somewhat pretentious, and the hotel was less helpful with information and exursions than we expected. Pay attention also to the room you choose: I'm sure the suites are incredible but the standard rooms are barely big enough to turn around in. All in all, this place was good but overrated and greatly depends on what you are looking for.

We chose this hotel as a good base for exploring the Burren which is a fascinating area of Ireland near Galway City. We like comfort, good food and wine and a quiet relaxing place to return to after a day roughing it outdoors. Good quality hotels in the UK and Ireland are never cheap and often the price / value equation leaves us disappointed. Gregans is not cheap but having stayed in many country house hotels in Scotland and Ireland on our hill walking weekends I can say that Gregans met our expectations. The housekeeping was excellent -- both in terms of cleanliness and being unobtrusive. The staff are professional and again unobtrusive -- but if you want to chat they are friendly. The food was excellent - as good as some starred Michelins I have eaten at -- the local beef and lamb especially. The wine list had no big names - apart from a half bottle of d'Yquem on the dessert list! - (I was tempted but resisted!) -but a decent selection at not unreasonable prices. This is a great part of the world and Gregans is a good experience. We also hired a guide from heartofburrenwalks -we dont usually do that! but we wanted to get as much from our time in the Burren as we could and would recommend them. It was wothwhile doing that.
