Highly recommend caving with Backwest Adventures. Tim was a great guide, with interesting explanations and always patient. When we met up, he informed us that due to the weather conditions, he recommended changing the cave we initially thought we were going to explore, but he still promised us a fun experience, and we did! My kids (teenagers) enjoyed the outing. Was a great family experience, especially when walking with our lights off. A great way to appreciate a part of nature that you don't usually have access to.

we are just back from a dazzling day with Tim and Terry, 30 meters underground. they tailored the adventure for our family. we are not big adventurers, but when Tim offered us to chose the preferable option, we went for the more adventurous one. they provided all the equipment from head to toes, literally. then they took us on an amazing trip underground. I don't want to spoil the highlights, which you must experience for yourself, but i will mention that me and my husband, along with our two kids, 17 and 12, had SO much fun. Tim and Terry were great, securing us perfectly on the one hand and providing tons of fun on the other hand. if you are coming to the Burren area, do not skip this adventure.

When we started planning our family trip to Ireland, we were interested in exploring some caves while we were there. I don't know why, but it is something we enjoy doing. We have been on several public cave tours (including Ailwee caves years ago), but we have also been on several "off the grid" tours, including Costa Rica, West Virginia, and Bath, England. We are definitely not "cavers", but we don't mind getting dirty and we are not claustrophobic (two important elements if you are going to stray off the public path). We saw the add for Backwest Adventures and contacted Tim O'Connell. We were able to schedule the trip around our time there and the price for the seven adults in our group was very reasonable. Tim told us that he could tailor the experience to whatever we were comfortable with, even splitting us up into two groups if we wanted.

We met Tim in Ballyvaughan, and then following him up the hill to a small turnout. There we donned coveralls, hard hats with lights and "wellies." After some quick instructions, we walked up the the entrance of the cave and made our way in. I know Tim was observing us to make sure that we were comfortable and he personalized our time there. My daughter-in-law had never been in a cave before, but she loved it!

There is some fun stuff to see in the cave, but the it doesn't have the spectacular views you might see in some of the show caves, but the fun (at least for us) was being able to climb and crawl through the cave and see things up close. If this appeals to you, then we would heartily recommend this trip to you. Tim is a great guide and he gave us a lot of input on what we did. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

I booked our first trip with Tim to see Poll na Gollum cave which may have been an inspiration for Tolkein who stayed nearby once. This information was amongst the many fascinating things we learned from our guide Tim. Tim is a knowledgeable patient and friendly guide and made sure the three in our group were given all the help and tuition we needed for the day. We ranged in age from an eleven year old to forty seven. As the eldest I was worried l would find the going too tough but with Tims expert coaching l managed challenging bits like the rope climb into the cave with no problems. A handful of the sights we saw that drew constant shouts of delight from all of us were stunningly beautiful rock formations, glittering water like stars on the cave roofs, stalactites, a crashing underground waterfall and crystal clear underground streams. All of this with no other tourists around! Just our little group. We felt like we were on a true adventure to the centre of the earth! In fact we loved it so much we booked a group of five to go out caving with Terry who is Tims fellow instructor and is just as patient, kind and friendly. Another day of magnificent adventuring was had by all. These trips were the highlight of our holiday and I'm delighted to recommend Terry and Tim so highly.

We had great fun (group of 10 of us) with Tim last week. There were a few nerves starting off. It's certainly more than a leisurely stroll, but really well managed and supported by such knowledgeable and fun guides that no-one had any difficulty. Would really recommend this to anyone to try out something a bit different.
