“class place to visit”

Lovely scenery and excellent gardens. You can tour the castle too which is informative. Make sure you visit the tea rooms up at the castle. Great food. The walk there and back is a great idea and is only 8k and very safe. Otherwise you can take one of the very frequent buses or hire a bike which we did today. Excellent day out.

“A real gem”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

A visit starts at the Visitor Centre, signposted from the car park, where one may watch a short film and learn more about the previous owners of the castle. The Centre also houses a restaurant, small shop and toilets. There is a shuttle bus available (central aisle very narrow) but the walk to the castle is most attractive, as are the diverse walks through the well-maintained gardens. Visitors may take a guided tour through parts of the Castle - music room, drawing room, dining room etc. - I found the bedrooms and en suite bathrooms particularly interesting. There is a tea room at the Castle serving beverages and light refreshments but , surprisingly, there was little in the way of postcards and, apparently, no souvenir book on sale. It would have been nice to have been able to buy an illustrated book about the castle for future reference.

“WELL WORTH SEEING”

A tour of castle is recommended. Also the gardens and walks are wonderful. It was a showery day, but still enjoyed everything about it. Apart from the midgets, worth buying a midget hat with net!

“Stunning”

We were advised by a few people to visit the national park and it exceeded our expectations. Beautiful walk from the visitor centre to the castle, great little tour of the castle and stroll around the gardens. The tearooms were top class, lovely food and very friendly guy working there.
