“Unexpected stay, pleasant result”
Reviewed 14 April 2011

It was a couple of years ago but I was having a meeting in Letterkenny and my wife having some leave at the same time, we decided she should come with me up from Dublin and make a day of it. It would be nice to have her company on the journey. The meeting went well but it went on another 3 hours or more than expected. We started to head home, starving but then decided to make the most of being away from home and find somewhere to stay and eat. We found the Silver Tassie on the main road and thought we'd have a look. It looked nice so we decided to head inside. They had a room available, it looked comfortable and so we left our things and headed to the restaurant. The menu looked great and we weren't disappointed when our order arrived. I had a steak and my wife had the fish. They were cooked perfectly. (Something I'm very fussy about!) We headed to the bar afterwards and enjoyed a couple of quiet drinks while there was some music on. In the morning, we had a lovely breakfast, the full Irish, but my wife had her usual healthy options. All in all, it was a lovely evening spent and a good decision to stay there. The road up to Letterkenny is much shorter now so we'll be up there and take advantage of one of their deals sometime soon I reckon.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back away from the music

This was our first stay, we were there for 2 night B&B and were delighted with the Hotel. It is a wee bit out from Letterkenny but we found no need to go anywhere else to eat although if you do the local taxi is e10. From the moment we arrived we found the staff welcoming and friendly, our room was large, bright and warm. On the first evening, we decided to have the e27.50p.p. 4 course dinner, the food was superb, the portions large and the house wine a reasonable e18.50 a bottle, we could hardly move after it. Breakfast was served until 10.30am and as well as the usual 'full Irish' there was also plaice and kippers. On the second evening, we decided to eat just one course in the Hotel Bar and again the food was excellent. Before leaving we managed to squeeze in an afternoon cream tea served in the conservatory, it was great value at e4.50 p.p. We didn't get time to try the Spa but spoke to other guest s who had and all enjoyed the experience. From the Hotel we drove to Glenveagh National Park, and around the coast to Dunfannaghy. Even if you are not staying inthe Hotel it would be worth calling in for a meal.

we were at a wedding, the food was lovely at the wedding and for breakfast. the room was spacious and bathroom was very big.the only thing that was a short problem, a teenage disco was on below our room but it ended early we were up in our room for a short period only when we heard the music. but would recommend this hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on The Silver Tassie Hotel. Our rooms are indeed very spacious & we pride ourselves on offering that home from home feeling so that you can truly relax on your break.

I was upset to hear that your relaxation was interrupted by music. This is not the normal occurrence in our Hotel as we are a small family run business that work very hard to make sure our guests leave feeling refreshed.

As I don't have the date of your stay it is difficult to investigate why there was music coming from a particular room, it may have been others guests returning from the wedding. I hope that, that aside you enjoyed your break & we look forward to welcoming you back to the Hotel in the near future.

Great hotel very friendly and made feel welcome!! Nothing was a problem no matter what the request. Food was so nice we never left the entire weekend to eat anywhere else. The best of all was the Seascape Spa only way to describe it is amazing, pure bliss!! Had the spring awakening package great value, staff a real credit to the hotel and finished off by a trip to the hairdressers on site to!! Thanks to the Silver Tassie for a great anniversary weekend!!

Just got home from a 2 night stay at the Silver Tassie hotel and i was most impressed with the place. the staff were excellent, food was good, and the family room was the biggest i've ever seen. lovely full Irish fry in the morning, and anything and everything else was also on offer if you felt like it, several different fruit juices, cereal, yoghurts, fruit salad, croissants, breads and an extensive choice of various cooked items, children were made most welcome too. The place restaurant was bunged the sunday night we were there, had to ask for a waiter to take our order, but the food came very quickly so not too bad. Room was big and clean, (103). and had all the usual, tea/coffee facilities, iron, hairdryer, tv and dvd player , with free films for you to watch from reception.good shower too. There are 3 tiles that need fixing around the bath, if you are reading this management, lets the room down slightly, and the bottom half of the toilet seat is yellow and stained underneath, not attractive. an easy cheap fix, i feel that it just about deserves 4 stars though and would definately have no hesitation in recommending it to people,

Thank you for your very positive review. I am delighted that overall you enjoyed your stay. Our rooms are indeed very spacious and have the home from home feeling. We appreciate you drawing our attention to the tiles and toilet seat in your room. Our maintenance team are replacing both at the minute. Our family run hotel love our guests to let us know our strong and weak points, it is the only way to improve our service and ensure our customers have an unforgettable experience. We look forward to seeing you at the Hotel again very soon and I have passed on your great review to our chefs and staff.
