“Perfect stay”

I've just returned from a nights stay at the lakeside hotel, it was my second time here and it will definitely not be the last, killaloe it's a beautiful area, the hotel is right beside the lake and the views are amazing, But the best thing about the lakeside hotel is the staff, from arrival to departure we were greeted with a smile n a bit of banter, it's great to see the famous Irish hospitality is still alive in places like this, everyone we met was absolutely fantastic, we will be back!!

Can't believe this sort of hotel still exists. Killaloe is beautiful, which is probably the main thing this hotel trades on; its view of the river and town. Other than that it is truly dreadful. It was the most expensive of the hotels I stayed in (at 110 euro) on this trip and was definitely bad value; I mean I stayed in a modern Sheraton in Athlone for 85 euro. The whole place was jaded, old and cheaply furnished. When I arrived I was "upgraded" to a "deluxe" room. This was a large room with a skylite that was screamingly-badly decorated; like a 1980s boudoir from Boogie Nights. Quel horreur. Also, and here's the good bit, the two windows had been bricked up to be small slits in the wall (why?). So. I went back to reception and asked for a non-deluxe room with windows ( if they had one). The next room was the opposite, more like a prelate's room; bare austere cheap furniture, a terrible small bathroom with ancient fittings. Really poor, sort of room that is not worth more than 60 euro. They have an extensive pool area, which seems to attract families. The other customers seemed to be old people, who looked tired too, negotiating the steep stairs (don't think there was a lift for 1st floor rooms) and generally looking harassed. Oh and for most of the afternoon, a large red vacuum cleaner sat in the middle of the corridor outside my door (lying in wait for one of those old people, I guess).

After visiting twice last year, returned again this year and was pleased that staff were still as friendly as ever. Kids still love the great pool and scenery is fantastic. Just two things that irritated me slightly - the inability to get a chilled glass of white wine ( it was always warm) and the awful Irish country music played at breakfast-time. Will be back again, can't fault the value and the atmosphere.

The hotel has a family run feel about it and although it is not really luxurious, it is clean and charming with really nice staff (in particular on reception) and has a great location overlooking the bridge over the Shannon into Killaloe. The food in the restaurant is good but the hot breakfast food could really be improved and should be made to order. The garden is beautifully maintained. Its only a 5 min walk to town and there are 2 great pubs and restaurants just down the road. Our bedroom was very plain and looked nothing like the rooms on the website but it was large and clean. The indoor pool would be great for entertaining kids as there is a good slide in there. I would recommend the Snoozin and Cruising package - good value for money.

My husband and I recently celebrated our wedding at the Lakeside and it was so fantastic! From the day we first enquired about the wedding we experienced amazing customer service and when it came down to actual day us two control freaks were able to hand the reins over with confidence and we were not disappointed! The food was so so good and the meal was run with great precision. Our guests were so impressed with the food and commented on how friendly all the staff were! A special shout out to Sinead at reception who helped me with a minor wedding dress wardrobe malfunction ;-) We continued our celebrations at the hotel the following day with a BBQ.....sure why not! Everyone commented on what a relaxing and picturesque location it was and we simply could not have found a more perfect place for our big day. Thanks to Courtney, Eoin, Paul and all the staff who helped make our day run so smoothly. See ye all again soon, Jenny & Allan.
