We stayed here in May and ate in the lovely bistro. The family room was perfect and the sea views were excellent. Dinner in the bistro was first class with our young foodie son enjoying crab and scallops in a shellfish base, our young daughter ate the fish goujons, hubby had the traditional fish and chips and I had a lovely prawn and linguine dish. The atmosphere was lovely and the sunny views over the bay were glorious. Breakfast the following morning was cooked to order and set us up for the day. The only negative was we could only spend one night there. Couldn't recommend Johnny and Caroline's hospitality highly enough.

My wife and I had an excellent stay at The Strand in May. We had a lovely room overlooking the ocean and Johnny's cooking was very good for supper as well as breakfast. We highly recommend this place for a great experience in west Ireland.

We were lucky to find this on passing through this village and I must say we were please with the food. The staff were very friendly, lovely view of the ocean. It was comfortable to sit in and a lovely selection on the menu. It look like it was recently done up and still in progress but it was very comfortable to sit in spacious and warm. Definitely a lovely option to eat in.

A beautiful guest house which has retained the charm and individuality of days gone by.
Our evening meal was a "feast for the palate", the service and friendliness typical of a family run business.
After our full Irish breakfast we walked along the cliff, which is within walking distance, and were rewarded by a magnificent breathtaking view.
We hope to return in the summer!

I spent two nights at the Strand in Kilkee with my girlfriend and it was great.

We were welcomed and had a fantastic three course dinner wich was included in a package.
The Breakfast was also really good (full irish or a lot of varieties)
The room was nice, clean and with a good view over the bay and the Host, Johnny, makes you feel welcome at any time (He's by the way also the cook)

The peninsula, that starts directly behind Kilkee is absolutely amazing. It has big cliffs and the huge waves of the atlantic are thundering against them. Especially at the tongue, the Loop Head, we had a great time, as it was a sunny day and we were the only ones over there (the day before we have been with about 250 persons at the cliffs of Moher and it wasn't a nice weather at all).
So if you are looking for an unknown place which is just like you imagine Ireland, we can just recommend the Peninsula behind Kilkee.
And at The Strand you get great value for your money.

I stayed in the Strand in June 2012 with my family for a number of nights. We were very well looked after by the owners Johnny and Caroline with nothing being too much trouble for them. Our rooms were clean and homely with a spectacular view of the bay. The menu was wide ranging and varied and included several vegetarian options. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. We were even able to get variations of different dishes to suit our own tastes. Nothing was a hassle. Johnny and Caroline have an in depth knowledge of the area and had plenty of suggestions for things to do. They were warm and friendly any time we stopped to chat to them. Would definitely recommend The Strand as worth a visit. Great place to stay but also the perfect place to stop for something to eat - will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Go for rooms overlooking the bay
