“Lovely hotel. Excellent value for money.”
Reviewed 29 July 2014 via mobile

Stayed here with my girlfriend July 2014 mid week B&B for €96 (which included use of their Spa). The hotel combines the character of a period country house with the comfort and style of a modern hotel. The spa is great but most impressive was the outdoor pool overlooking the Cavan countryside and a fantastic breakfast buffet.

Service:
Very helpful, cheerful and friendly staff. Courtesy bus taking you to and from the car park is a nice touch. If one was to be meticulous perhaps the etiquette of the staff could be polished but I'm pulling at straws here.

Value:
As mentioned, we got the overnight stay for €96 so no argument with the value. Great offer!

Food:
We did not have lunch or an evening meal in the hotel but the bar menu looked impressive. The breakfast was superb, great selection of meats, cheeses, pastries and hot food.

Spa:
The outdoor pool was the best feature for me, swimming outside with such comfort in Ireland is a rare occasion. The steam room could have been a few degrees higher if I was to be picky. Very clean and the various water coolers with mint, cucumber and lemon were a lovely touch. No hot tub or hot jacuzzi which is a shame but in all a great experience and a wonderful service offered. My girlfriend got a back, neck and shoulder massage which she said was great though €€55 seemed a bit pricey however an excellent massage.

Would highly recommend this hotel, especially at this price.

This is a beautiful hotel but needs a little bit more love. The windows in the entire hotel need cleaning. This is obvious throughout the hotel as you can clearly see the dirt and webs. The grounds of the Hotel also need a little TLC. We walked through the orchard and down to the green house which where bout unloved. These could be great features for this hotel. On our second night in our room suite 304 we did have a slightly uneasy experience at the early hours in the morning as somebody tried to open the door in the middle of the room but I expect that this was a guest trying to find their own room. I did have a couple of minor issues in relation to no air-conditioning in the suite 304. We did have a fan but this was insufficient in relation to the rooms size and extremely noisy at night. We did not get the peaceful night’s sleep we had hoped for. Also we dined in the Botanic restaurant on the second night. I had ordered a fillet steak but when it arrived it was tepid and the mash and veg where also cold. This was very disappointing. When I made my complaint the waitress did apologies and returned to the kitchen. She came back and advised that I would have to wait at least another 25/30mins for another one or the chef could reheat the dish. I eat my steak medium so I decided that I would wait. I also did not want a reheated fillet steak. The steak arrived after 15mins and it was ok and not medium more medium well. Also the mash and veg where slightly hotter but not great. I would of expected more from the chef and that the food would be as hot as the minute it left the gril ect. I have to say the way the F&B waitress whom handled my complaint done so with an outstanding level of customer service. The staff at reception where extremely help full as where the staff in the bar in the lobby. To be honest these are minor complaints and did not affect our overall experience greatly. We had a fantastic weekend and would recommend this hotel for couples who want a romantic get away

Had a 2 day break in this wonderful resort. Found from my first contact with Keiron on front desk till our departure, that nothing was too hard. Room was excellent size with bathroom and had all the extra features being provided. Golf course attached to resort is challenging, bring lots of balls as you are not going to find anything in the rough. When I played at 8 am, I was the only one on course. Had dinner in resort and food and service was excellent, good choice of wines. Room had views over neighbouring farm, so you see the real Ireland, not someone's design garden. Appears popular for weddings but design of resort keeps all the potential noise down, not that I had a problem. Walks around resort are well planned and can meet all levels of fitness. Car parking is cleverly positioned away from the entrance, so that you don't have a gaggle of cars at the front door, they will get you to your car any time with no delay. Drawing rooms in front area of hotel provide ideal area to sit and relax with a good book or a late night drink. Breakfast had one of the best choice I have ever seen in any hotel, so from continental or to a full cooked Irish breakfast or any variation, it was all there.
This was a resort hotel that did not make you feel you were just a on a package deal but a member of their home(by the way I was not on a package deal).
Would recommend as part of any tour around Ireland.
