“The experience far exceeded our expectations.”

We showed up at Aherne's without reservations as we were travelling without a schedule. The owner showed us the room and it took about a nanosecond to decide that we were staying. The room had a very elegant european atmosphere. Spacious with nice furniture and a little balcony looking out on the courtyard. Nice bathroom and shower amenities. Great bar and restaurant with excellent food. Breakfast was included. At first I thought it was a cereal, fruit, coffee, juice, toast and bagel buffet. Which would have been fine. I was surprised when asked what I would like from the kitchen. The location is great for walking anywhere about town. The husband/wife owners are super. Excellent hospitality. Made us feel very much at home. A most enjoyable stay. Thanks, Mike and Sharon from Florida. P.S.......I grew up in Youghal.

We stayed at Aherne's for a week and thought it was marvellous. It has an excellent and much deserved reputation for fine dining which we took full advantage of but also accommodates the more casual approach to eating with bar food that is second to none and treated with the same attention to detail as if you had ordered in the main restaurant. There is a good wine list and the Guinness is good too!

The bedrooms are beautifully furnished, extremely well appointed and spotlessly clean with comfortable beds to sleep in and chairs to relax in.

However, there is one ingredient that makes this hotel and restaurant stand out from the crowd and that is the approach of the Fitzgibbon family and their staff to their guests. They really want you to enjoy your stay and so go the extra mile continuously to enhance your holiday enjoyment. Nothing is too much trouble and it is all delivered with a ready smile! I think one word sums up our Aherne's experience - Delightful !!

I stayed here one night traveling with a friend and liked it so much that I turned around and came straight back after dropping her home in Dublin and stayed two more nights. The rooms are beautifully appointed and luxurious, with comfortable beds, large bathrooms, and terrific amenities. The hotel includes a residents' only lounge with stoked a fireplace and abundant reading material. The B&B rate included a delicious breakfast (cold cereals, fruit, grilled fish, full Irish or any part thereof, coffee, tea, juices). I selected the Dinner/B&B rate which included my choice of one of four offerings in starters, entrees, and dessert, along with tea and coffee. Selections can also be made from the a la carte menu, with additional charges added to the room bill. The food at all meals (which included a lunch in the bar) was exquisite -- absolutely gourmet quality. The restaurant books quickly with local trade; all you need to do is give them your dining time in the morning and they'll make sure there is a table available. The owners and management, Katie and John, and David and Gay, are delightful to visit with, wonderful resources for things to do in the area, and very accommodating. Also, David is a miraculous chef. Every meal was a delight, the lounge was a comforting place to curl up with a book at the end of a long day touring back roads, and my room was an absolute haven at the end of the day. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Greeted by exceptionally friendly and welcoming lady who showed us to our room and gave us a brief tour of the hotel, before passing us onto her colleague (Ann?) as she was leaving for the evening.

Rooms were big. King bed was 2 doubles pushed together. This hotel claims to be luxury but it's not. In a luxury hotel I'd expect bathrobes, premium toiletries and a useable hairdryer to say the least. The wardrobe doors stuck and of the 8 available channels on the ancient TV, only 2 actually worked. The pillows - flat and lumpy and were the biggest disappointment of all.

For the inflated price charged you don't really get anything above or beyond what is standard in any hotel.

We were booked B&B but decided to try out the 'highly recommended' food. We had drinks in the bar whilst waiting for menus - this took over 20 minutes as the 2 staff were rushed off their feet. After being joined by a 3rd staff member, we eventually got our menus and decided to eat in the newly refurbished dining room.

We wanted to mix & match from the set menu & a la carte (which we were told we could do) but trying to explain this to the flummoxed waitress who couldn't stand still for 5 seconds was impossible. Instead of paying €90 for 2 meals we ended up paying €120 (for less courses too!) and when I tried explaining this on checkout I was told I should have mentioned it before ordering!!!

My garlic prawn starter at €16 was a big disappointment,- literally an escargot bowl with half a dozen medium prawns in garlic. Whilst food was good it was HIGHLY overpriced.

Breakfast was good & plentiful.

I wouldn't stay here again unless the prices were reduced dramatically. We left feeling we'd been ripped off.

Stayed in Ahernes for a weekend as part of an offer which included dinner on one of the nights. I was a bit worried when they said it was a set menu, but the set menu was very generous and you could mix and match from the a la carte for a small bit extra. And the food was really fantastic - make sure you don't have a big lunch! The room was lovely and big and the staff were friendly and welcoming.

This is a quite lovely hotel/restaurant set in the bustling Cork town of Youghal, The hotel is small , run by a hands-on family team which gives it an intimacy and genuine friendliness.
The rooms are comfortable, of a good size and light with the useful modern addition of wireless broadband. Room rates are reasonable.
There is a recently refurbished restaurant, which we did not use this time, and a cosy bar serving absolutely first rate seafood lunches and dinners. Food prices are not cheap but the quality of the food matches the prices charged.
Strong recommendations for the monkfish scampi and the pan-fried plaice which was huge!
