Review of Moby Dick's Pub

Moby Dick's Pub

Owner description: Youghal is a very historic walled port town with numerous interesting sites to see. It is also a modern vibrant town with blue flag beaches. In the heart of it all is Moby Dick’s Pub with its unique water front setting. Little wonder then that John Huston and Gregory Peck based themselves in Moby Dick’s Pub for the duration of the film.

After passing by this pub and peeking in before our dinner, we decided to go back after we ate elsewhere and were pleasantly surprised. We happened upon one of those very cool Irish moments where locals were gathered at the local watering hole and spontaneous singing broke out.

Just a word of warning (in jest): if you order a Guinness, the barkeeper will most likely make fun of you and urge you to order a Murphy's stout. For what it's worth, my husband had no idea that the pub was of significance and that some of Moby Dick had been filmed in Youghal. He just wanted to go to a local pub and this one was his choice. I'm glad I conceded...it made for a wonderful and memorable evening.

We visit this Bar frequently both day and evening and find it a very friendly and welcoming bar, great live music at the week-ends and a great atmosphere. We had a brilliant time during the Moby Dick festival last year and are looking forward to this years festival. The owners, Kevin and Breda are great hosts and make you feel very welcome. You can get a lovely toasted sandwich with great drinks i.e. beers, stouts, coffees, hot chocolate, etc and they do a great pint of Murphys. I would recommend this bar to anyone..especially during the Moby Dick festival and the other many festivals Youghal has to offer.

Been to this pub years ago but went back there recently as I consider it a must when visiting Youghal. It looks out onto the sea, and once inside is cosy, the faded look decor part of it's olde world feel, you could almost be back in 1954 when the film Moby Dick was being filmed.

It was a quiet day when we went in but had the couple of locals at the bar were friendly and welcoming. We ordered toasted ham and cheese sandwiches which were ok, a bit dry nothing special but satisfying enough.

Plenty of stills from the film on the walls, apparently John Huston and Gregory Peck and the cast would descend on the pub (run by the Linehan family) to discuss the days filming, I really got a sense of long ago from my visit and am glad I made the trip there this year.

Judging by the other reviews I must have been in the wrong pub. Very quiet although saying that it was a wed night.
Only occupants were a few mature gentlemen one with a laptop on the counter. No talk or banter from barman or anyone else. Soaps blaring on TV. absolutely no character

This is a nice pub with nice people. But what's the point? In Ireland, pubs usually are nice and people are friendly and ourgoing. There is nothing special besides the fact that this pub was a location for the movie "Moby Dick". So, if you are close, stop by, but if not, just go to any other nice pub.
