We went to this hotel to celebrate my dear friends 50th birthday, we were there for 2 nights.

The rooms are very clean & the view from our room was spectacular, with the small bay, the gardens & the beautiful green hills behind it made it a perfect place for anyone of any age. The whole area is steeped in history & if you talk to the locals they will tell you a lot of the history. The people are very friendly & welcoming.

The breakfast should not be missed as it is amazing all the produce must be locally sourced as the taste was so different from the supermarket offerings that we cook here.

The food in the bar is cooked fresh & there is plenty of it, you couldn't fault the food in this hotel.

The first night we went out to celebrate someone's birthday & didn't get back until very late, we then rung the buzzer & rung & rung.... there were 8 of us stuck outside the hotel & decided to knock on the windows when we were finally let in we were told the buzzer wasn't working & there should be a sign on it - there wasn't - but they apologised & all was fine as we went to our rooms.

My friends 50th was being held in the hotel the next evening & we all had a great time but when we moved from the function room to the bar we were met by the owner who rather curtly asked if we were residents of the hotel, we gave him our room numbers & were allowed a drink but he was quite sarcastic to my husband & another friend said he was rude. Unfortunate as we had spent a lot of money in the hotel & as we were all in our 50's we weren't any trouble, we just fancied another drink.

The rest of the staff are brilliant & very helpful, it a shame the owner doesn't take a leaf out of their books.

I would say that when you check in please make sure that you are being charged correctly, as 3 of us had problems with this. they tried to charge €380 to our card for our room & if my friend hadn't been there we would have paid it without realising that it should have been €180, we were not the only ones this happened to & I realise that there was a lot of block bookings but it wasn't checked by the staff.

Apart from these few problems we had a fantastic stay & I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a hotel In youghal.

I will be returning to Youghal it is definitely the place for a nice break.

First visit to a place that has been gutted and rebuilt from the inside out. It is really spacious and bright & airy. The bar has good atmosphere, but the rest of the place is classical, bright, unfussed.
A new kitchen has been put in to the second floor dining room and it really modern and stylish.
Everything id new and classical.
the food is to die for! I've eaten in best & expensive restaurant's in Kinsale and they don't match for quality or value.

I had beetroot & mackerel wioth horseradish for starters after a complimentary 'amus bouche'.
To die for - the tastes were amazing.

the a Beaubass - again really, really excellent and the bill - better than Kinsales or anywhere local in Youghal.

Excellent fish dishes and really good cuisine.

One small dissent - I don't like plastic flowers on the table.

I will definitely go again and tell others - it is the best yet.

My wife and I stayed here last weekend. The check in lady was very helpful. The room was neat and tidy and above all clean. We had an excellent Irish breakfast. All of the staff were warm and friendly and when we go back to Youghal this is where we will stay. We have stayed in another hotel in the past and while it was good this was better and cheaper.

Room Tip: Book a room with a view

On Saturday evening last a group of us visited the newly opened and refurbished restaurant on the first floor in the Walter Raleigh. It was very impressive - the whole hotel and interior has been completely revamped -giving a Hampton's chic vibe - lots of fresh colour's and flowers and attention to detail - it is really well appointed and has a stunning view over Blackwater and the sea.

Congrats to the interior design team -clearly they have invested a lot of money in this revamp. There was 9 of us in our group and we were really impressed with the whole experience - lovely wine , lovely menu and for the non-fish lovers there were plenty of options also - the food was really very good and attentive service.

The chef is a talent for sure and we were pleasantly surprised to get amuse bouche and complimentary sorbets between courses which was a nice touch. Fishy Fishy and Kinsale need to watch out because this new Youghal restaurant is certainly every bit as good.
