This is a fantastic addition to the beach, wheelchair users, buggy's and people who are not so mobile really beneift from the boardwalk, 10/10. If they could continue it to redbarn or possibly pilmore it would be great!

“Seaside Walk on Terra Ferma”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2013

A walk by the sea, barefoot being massaged by the sand is just magic. But if you don't want to get your toes covered in sand, have a small child in a buggy or somebody is a wheelchair user then Youghal has an interesting feature: promenade and boardwalk. This provides the option to walk by the seaside, enjoy the view of the sea without having to deal with sand, stones and puddles. It is absolutely great.

“Good Views”

There is a pleasant walk along the river from the town towards the 5 km sandy beach. The actual beachfront is uninspiring however the river views are nice.

“Great amenity - not well maintained”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2013

Don't get me wrong - the Boardwalk is wonderful. Its surface is in good nick, its setting picturesque and the location in Youghal (Eochaill) is nothing less than stunning. What earns it only an average rating is that it is littered with rubbish, the parking lots still have sand and pebbles built-up from storms last Autumn and the effect is nothing short of a distraction and disappointment.

Youghal suffers from good maintenance. The crumbling wall near the Diving Rocks and Lighthouse have had the road blocked-off since last summer. As you drive into Youghal, instead of drinking in its beauty, you are met with gates, fences, road hazard cones and every sign of decay and neglect possible. As you enter the strand, the public toilets are in equally poor repair and send a message of carelessness (as in care less). It is a shame that what should be an exceptional destination has the hallmarks of better-days-gone-by at ever turn, from the Boardwalk to the Main Street.

Youghal and its Boardwalk ought to be destinations of choice for every Irish person and tourist alike. Sadly, the disrepair, neglect and carelessness of the surroundings mar the beauty and history that should make the community a paradise.

If you visit the Boardwalk, find a loo elsewhere as the public amenities are gross. Bring a small rubbish bag and do your bit and collect rubbish along the way in the hope that it will set a standard. And for God's sake - the Council needs to get serious about fining dog-owners as it is hard to walk 10 steps without stepping in dog droppings. Its a sad state of affairs when a broom and shovel can be applied to the sand and stones that have laid there since last autumn. I would complain of mis-management, but that would imply the site is managed at all.

And what a shame it is that there is no kiosk where one can get a cuppa, an ice cream, water or otherwise sit out and enjoy the view. If you take children to the strand, the Boardwalk or the beach, you will find that there is little reason to remain. The Boardwalk is a wonderful addition but smacks of a venue half-thought-out when its natural beauty is so exceptional.
