The Coastguard is a real 'off the beaten track' gem in Tramore, mostly the preserve of locals, rarely found by tourists. But a walk across the Doneraile will reward the famished traveller (if the walk itself isn't reward enough) with the best and most affordable cake in town, and for many miles around, I'd argue. The gluten-free hazelnut brownie is about the best thing you'll ever taste. Light lunches are very tasty and very affordable too, and the view across Tramore Bay is unrivalled.
The service can be a little scatty - I think quite a few of the workers are there voluntarily - but it's always a lovely, relaxed atmosphere, and they often offer coffee refills! Usually closed by 5 p.m. unless there's an event on. A regular haunt for me - do yourself a favour and make the effort to find it.
